Cowboys Game...Who is going and where to stay

Hi All,

I was just wondering who is making the trek up to Townsville next week. I am trying to work my Brisbane trip around making a detour there and want to know where people on here are planning to seat and what area in Townsville they are planning to stay.

I have never been past the Sunshine coast , but I noticed around the Cowboys club might be a giood place to stay.

Any dfeedback would be Appreciated

Never returning to Townsville

Nope not going this year. Check on wotif.com to compare places to stay. And cover your beers if you are on the hill at the game otherwise you will find yourself swallowing frogs!!

Bad experience there last time mate, or is the Balmain Vs Melbourne game at Leichhardt on the same day more attractive?

Everyone talked up the Townsville trip, but when I went it was quite a boring town, the night life was a bore. Markets were nice the next day though. And I HIGHLY suggest trying out the All you can eat breakfast at the leagues club - a favourite of Tigergran and I.

Not worth traveling when the BRET team isn’t there.

Gee mate, I thought it would be a little bit like that ……but now you have got me worried 😒

I guess I will decide on Tuesday if it’s worth the effort.

Hey where is the Jungle sitting, not near the floodlights I hope, as I have heard the insects will drive you crazy!

I lived in Townsville for the past 5 years, but am in Cairns now, so this is 1 of the few games I see a year. Townsville is alright, its not as bad as people make out. I would suggest staying anywhere on Palmer street which has a heap of great restaurants and the hotels are nice. It is in the city so if you wanna go to the markets or anything on the sunday you can. Also you can catch a bus from the city to the game if you don’t have a car. You can walk from Palmer street to flinders street where all the pubs/clubs are if you wanna go out after the game.

Well said tigr3.This is the only game I go to and I live in the North as well. With all the frogs and insects causing problems with all the Tiger visitors. You are all drinking the wrong stuff try bundys after 2 full games and plenty of bundy you wont know what your seeing…Ha! Ha!..Enjoy your trip to Townsville.

I’ll side with Smeghead. I had to go there for work once and it was on par with Rockhampton for boredom. There must have been more staff in the casino than actual punters. Plus the ground seems miles out of town, by Townsville standards anyway. It seemed to be right on the edge of town.

Look the area down near the beach was nice and I had a nice view of Magnetic Island from my hotel but I wouldn’t be rushing back.

Thanks Tig3 and Poppa, it’s good to get your local knowledge, and hopefully staying near Palmer Street.
By the sounds of things, doesn’t seems to be a he’ll of a lot going up.
Is there a away supporters bay at Dairy Stadium which has a half decent view?

I made the road trip up to Canberra, however I think Townsville is a little beyond my reach.

If I was you buddy, i’d try and entertain myself in the meantime so that just in case the tigers lose, your trip was still worthwhile.

lol, you should stop at the Gold Coast on the way. nothin’ much to do in Townsville is there?
