Brett Feres

Huddersfield Giants star Brett Ferres has been linked with NRL sides Wests Tigers and Gold Coast Titans after he was transfer-listed.
The Giants provisionally suspended Ferres last month, just four days after he helped England win the Test series over New Zealand. On Tuesday Huddersfield revealed that suspension had been lifted but he had been placed on the transfer list.

“Huddersfield Giants have concluded the investigation into the conduct away from the field which led to the suspension of Brett Ferres,” a statement from the Super League club read.
"That suspension has been lifted and Mr Ferres disciplined in line with company policy. Mr Ferres has also been transfer-listed. “The club will be making no further comment at this stage.”

NRL side Sydney Roosters were linked with Ferres earlier this month but that move appears to have broken down as the Roosters wanted to take the back-row forward on a season-long loan deal, but the Giants are seeking a permanent switch and a fee.

Ferres, however, could still be heading Down Under as the Huddersfield Examiner has reported at least two other NRL clubs are keen with other reports suggesting the Tigers and the Titans are the interested parties, while Super League rivals Salford Red Devils and Hull FC have also been linked.

Take of it what you will.

Rare to say, but I know absolutely nothing about him, though I recognise the name. He’s not gonna win any beauty contests, I can say that straight up.

Titans have the money and lifestyle, not confident, is he any good though?

Wow if we can pull off this signing it would be massive. He is an awesome player scored 3 tries against the kiwis this year. I did read the club might be anouncing a big signing soon but was thinking it was Tim Grant. Would much rather Feres but doubt we could afford him seems hes a international.

whatta player!! great pickup for us if we can get him at a solid price.

hopefully a little on the cheap side since hes from SL not the NRL but he was great for england against the kiwis. would really add exactly what we need to our pack. a nice reasonably experienced and solid 2nd rower

We always have a go at the Australian league media but at least they know the Tigers haven’t got enough money to sign anyone for more than the minimum. The English league media obviously hasn’t yet removed the Tigers from the random draw options when they need to fill gaps in the sentence “he has been linked with a number of NRL clubs including X, Y and Z”. Maybe Rothfield could tip them off that X = Roosters, Y = Titans and Z = Manly in all cases, with the Eels and Raiders also available for novelty’s sake.

We are able to re-sign players not on minimum wages, we aren’t broke.

Give him a back ended deal . What could possibly go wrong.

I’d imagine it would be Titans with the most cash and need for him. Roosters etc always in with a shout too.

Not only would he probably be on 500k over here, his club want a transfer fee paid for him. Not many NRL clubs would do that. Souths did for Burgess, but it certainly doesn’t happen often.

Brett Ferres (born 17 April 1986 in Castleford, England) is a professional rugby league footballer who currently plays for Huddersfield of Super League. An England national representative second-row forward, he previously played for Bradford, Wakefield Trinity and Castleford.[5]

Ferres was a member of the England academy side that toured Australia and New Zealand in 2004. In 2005 he made 9 first team appearances for Bradford and was the regular goal kicker for the senior academy, a side he also captained, scoring 17 tries in only 17 appearances for the under-21s.[6] As Super League champions Bradford faced National Rugby League premiers Wests Tigers in the 2006 World Club Challenge, Ferres played from the interchange bench in Bradford’s 30-10 victory. Ferres won caps for England in 2006 against France, Tonga (2 matches) and Samoa in the 2006 Federation Shield tournament.[7][8][9][10][11] In late 2006, Ferres signed for Wakefield Trinity in exchange for David Solomona who went to Bradford.[12]

He was named at second-row in the 2013 Super League Dream Team.

In 2013, Ferres was named in the English squad for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. Ferres was selected after Gareth Hock’s breached team policy and was removed from the squad. Ferres featured in every game England played.

In 2014, Ferres played for England in the 2014 Four Nations held in Australia and New Zealand.

In 2015, Ferres was selected in the England 24-man squad to take on New Zealand in a test-series.[16] Before the series began England played a test match against France. Brett scored 3 of the 15 tries scored by England in the match in what was a demolishing of their opponents.[17] His form continued into the test series, where he scored two tries and was named man of the match in England’s 26-12 victory in the first test.

Immediately following the test series, Ferres was suspended by Huddersfield pending an investigation into his “conduct away from the club”.[
