Happy Anniversary

12 years ago this weekend the Wests Tigers won their first piece of silverware, storming to glory in the 2004 World Sevens.

After stealing victory in the last play of their semi-final against St George Illawarra, the Tigers blitzed the defending champion Parramatta Eels 18-7, with Benji Marshall, Daniel Fitzhenry and Pat Richards starring throughout the tournament…

And STILL Reigning CHAMPIONS…

Yep, still World Champions

We were down and out.

Then Fitzy! Down the sideline!

He was being run out, but he managed to put a grubber back in towards the middle…

The ball sat up in the in-goal, the race was on and Richards plants his hands on it to win the game and the 7’s for the Wests Tigers!

What an amazing weekend!

Something interesting: we won the last iteration of the 7s in 2004 and won the comp the following year. Cowboys won the first iteration of the Auckland Nines in 2014 and won the comp the following year (they defeated the Broncos in both instances).

Souths won the 9s in 2015… see what happens this year?
