Wests Tigers have today unveiled the Club’s first ever Indigenous Jersey, which will be worn in Round 10 of the 2016 NRL season on Sunday, May 15.

The jersey, which was designed by local Indigenous artist Dennis Golding, is available for purchase from the Club’s official RoarStore at $160 for adults and $135 for kids.

Wests Tigers will wear the jersey on Sunday, May 15 when they take on the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium for their Round 10 clash.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said the addition of an indigenous jersey in 2016 provided another way for the Club to recognise Australia’s indigenous community.

“We’re really proud to feature this indigenous jersey in 2016 and proud to have had one of our loyal supporters create the original design too,” Pascoe said.

“This is the first time in Club’s history we’ll wear an indigenous jersey, and we hope that this distinctive strip is something that appeals to all of our Members and fans."

Dennis Golding, who is pictured below with the original artwork for the jersey, said the design reflects two different groups meeting together and uniting as one.

“What I’ve designed is the two teams — and you can also that to two communities — and they come here into the centre area where they can meet and support one another,” he said.

"You look back at the history of Wests Tigers and it’s come from two teams — from Western Suburbs Magpies and Balmain Tigers — and this centre speaks to that.

"It’s a quite popular symbol that a lot of artists use for meeting place. That’s what I’ve tried to put in there; that this is the meeting place where two teams combine and unite as one.

“This jersey doesn’t just talk about me or my designs,” he said.

“I’ve tried to keep this universal for the rest of Wests Tigers and for my family.”

What a cracker of a jersey ….The video by the designer is worth a listen to…Two great Foundation Clubs steeped in history coming together in a meeting place to forge a new Identity…Love IT…

  • Looks like he has the picture the wrong way up

  • That is awesome.
Ive never unnderstood why weve seemed to be reluctant in the past to have indigenous jumpers, our colurs are perfect for them…Good work Dennis, terrific

  • Impressive - should be a winner with the fans

  • Seriously what an awesome Jersey.

  • Can we wear it for all games? 😃

  • Why do I get the feeling I’ve already seen this jersey? Was it leaked at some stage?

  • I would be happy if they wore the indigenous jumper every week. Our colours of black white and orange really lend themselves to indigenous art. Certainly 100% better than some of the creations they have come up with in recent years

  • It’s pretty awesome finally have an indigenous jersey! I’m lovin’ the design, It’s simple but has a great pattern.

Yep my young fella wants one already

  • That’s the best jersey this club has released in our entire existence.

Outstanding message behind the artwork too, great effort by Dennis.
