Wests Tigers Holden Cup Coach Willie Peters has named his side to take on the New Zealand Warriors in the season opener this Saturday, March 5.

In what is a new-look side - eight players are set to make their NYC debut this weekend - including halfback Thomas Bartley who has impressed throughout the trials.

Junior Tatola and Jack Wheelhouse will co-captain the side, with standout performers from last year in Obed Karwhin, JJ Felise and Esan Marsters also included in the line-up.

The team had mixed results during pre-season trial matches, with a 35-34 victory over Cronulla, a 28-22 loss to the Sydney Roosters and a 22-all draw against Penrith.

Kick-off for the match is scheduled for 3:15pm at Campbelltown Sports Stadium, prior to the NRL clash between Wests Tigers and New Zealand at 5:30pm.

That’s shaping up to be a pretty good forward pack

There’s some size and speed there. Let’s hope there’s some consistency this year.

This post has intrigued me since Tuesday. What is your point tsjonathan?

Great win by our 20’s over a strong Warriors team

FT 26-12…Two tries to Esan Marsters, as well as tries to Mapesone, Tatola and Jacobs

Can anyone advise how Thomas Bartley went today? I am pleased that Jacobs is in the centres and also the strength in the front row.

Very talented Booker. Next one on.the assembly line. Could be better than liddle even cherrington. Watched a bit of him few years ago

Peck was very good when he came on. Made some good runs and was stuck in in defence too!

Bartley was pretty quiet. Didn’t do much, maybe a bit of stage-fright. Defence was solid so hopefully he can get a bit more involved next week as apparently he had done quiet well in the trials.

It was concerning that Stone got heavily concussed after about 10 mins. The second time in about 12 NYC games. He like Casell have very good technique but like Fulton seem to be prone to getting concussed too often.

The props were great as expected. Work rate and some real punch in attack.

One of the main problems was our inability to use Karwhin at all. He didn’t get passed the ball once. All game!! Considering he was our leading try scorer last season that’s criminal. Jacobs was certainly the cluprit here. He flat out refused to pass to Karwhin on numerous occasions, selfishly going himself every time. He made some decent runs but being a ball-hog surely won’t win him any favours from his team mates or coaches. A few cut out ball from Bartley could also help things but as stated above he was quiet.

Mapesone took it upon himself to do much of the attacking, but again he’s a runner not a passer, but he made a few breaks and apart from the inctercept pass he threw - which they ran 90m to score- he was solid.

Paseka off the bench looked handy for his first game but needs to rip in a bit more.

All in all it was a very well structured and disciplined performance by the boys. Looked much better than last season. With Sirro jnr jnr, Stone, Pifeleti and maybe even Liddle (not sure we need him at NYC though) dropping back it looks like another very strong side, especially considering they were up against a strong Warriors team.

How did Jack Wheelhouse go….Im a fan of his.

Also is McCormack still with us? injured or something.

Stone and B SIrro would be huge in’s at NYC level.

Not sure if it’s him Goose but a J Wheelhouse bagged 4 tries for Wests in Ron Massey Cup on the weekend.

THat would be the other one wouldnt it? the outside back.

Was a great performance. 26-12 probably didn’t justify how dominate the guys were. Tatola and Felisse laid the platform and ran all over their opposites. When the reserve props came on the domination didn’t stop which was great to see.

Masters was unstoppable on the right edge, guy has first grade written all over him, much more impressive then Funaki ever was.

Very impressed with two new guys. The back rower Giles who replaced Stone and held his own. On one occasion he lead a kick chase and pulled down the Warriors fullback ina great one on one tackle to get us a repeat set which we scored off. Big guy who moves very well.

The other was the redhead winger Jackoson who unfortunately looked like he pulled a hammy late. Reminded me a lot of Corey Oates. Tall lean guy who will fill out however his hit ups getting us out of our end were fantastic, he was making 10meters every time and got us on the front foot every set.

See a lot of positives in the team so looking forward to a strong year.
