With talk of Thurston stalling up north and maybe Parra after him i’m thinking are we going to have a go …to think of the Benji/Thurston show and a great kicker we have a premiership right there in 2011 …so should we mortgage the house i say YES! I,m willing to though in $50
-
No.
We don’t need him, and he would command big $$$. As much I think he’s a good player, I can’t stand the whinging grub either.
-
Thurston no doubt is holding out to see the best offer he can get, is common sense business.
no denying he would be a handy addition to any team.
like him or not he is a good player who has a successful conversion rate.
but to be honest would prefer to see Benji & Timmy Moltzen as the halves.
and spend money on two players not one. -
No no no no no no!!!
We don’t need him we have good young players coming up we should be spending money on. Who’s to say Lazarus or Tim Moltzen will be as good as JT in years to come.
Too much $$$$
-
Tigers won’t go for him. He’s chasing too much money and for the first time in a long time the Tigers have good depth in the halves.
-
Last time I checked there was a thing called a salary cap. We wouldnt have too many first graders left if we had Thurston, Ellis, Marshall, Tuqiri and Farah.
-
to answer your question….no we wouldnt go after JT. if we did, and thats a big if, the money offered by the tigers wouldnt even come close to his 2nd or 3rd best offer. plus the cap would not allow us.
-
Theyre talkin 750k….that sorta dosh is five players for us.
-
no we wont.
-
….Wait a minute , I got a spare lobster in my back pocket as a down payment
-
Bugger that, get Prince back and use the spare dollars to pay the contract breach
-
We as fans would be nuts to say Jonathon Thurston would not be a quality addition to our team, the bloke is one hell of a good footballer! But yes $750 000 on top of Marshalls long term deal along with Farah, Galloway, Ellis, Tuqiri etc all signing long and good paying contracts, it is alas wishful thinking.
-
a single player shouldn’t take up $750k of a cap, even if he (who ever he is) is worth it.
It’s too unfair on other players plus it will only force upward pressure on the salaries of other marquee players, meaning that we’ll see more players leave the NRL.
If the cap expands then fine, but I like what Phil Gould said:Have a $4mil salary cap but limit each player’s contract exposure to the cap to $200,000. In layman’s terms, only $250k of a player’s contract gets included in a cap, beyond that the clubs are free to top up a players salary cap as much as they like!
If clubs want to spend overs on getting big-name players they will be forced to spend less on players filling up the rest of the squad list, so it’s in their interest to have a diverse team. -
Thurstan = Premiership
-
Didn’t Folkes not offer him a contract @ the Dogs and JT cried.
I don’t think he would come to us anyway
