Tigers eye new digs
IN what would be a major boost for the Wests Tigers, NRL boss David Gallop is lobbying the Federal and State governments for a new 40,000-seat stadium at Campbelltown. As part of soccer’s bid for the 2022 World Cup, the rectangular venue has been earmarked for Blacktown. We’re told Gallop has made serious progress with K Rudd and K Keneally to have the stadium built in Campbelltown instead.

It is a MUST in Campbelltown.
2500 peple turned up at Gearzone to see Moltz, Nella, Lotto and Bagz.MacArthur needs this but it all has to start with sellout crowds starting Round 8 Against the Roosters.
-
Will also be great for when the Roosters and AFL take over the area as well!!
-
That’s great news for Campbelltown and the Tigers if this gets off the ground. It’s obviously a few years away but the Tigers would certainly need a new stadium by then anyway.
-
Accessibility is Campbelltown’s obvious benefit and strength to its claim and cause for yet another redevelopment. The train line, the M5, which links to the M7 which feeds into the M2 and M4 and all major roads, highways makes Campbelltown logistically brilliant. Add to the current and growing demographics and its projected 390% increase in population by 2015 and it is hands down the best candidate ahead of Blacktown, Central Coast, Penrith etc.
And the benefit, Wests Tigers would have their own little Suncorp Stadium to play out of.
-
They already said Campbelltown would be the 4th NSW location. Why did they change their mind?
And bug it’s Macarthur. No capital A

I would play 9 games there, 3 at Leichhardt.

They are going to build a state of the art stadium and play games at Leichhardt?
Only speculation anyway, however, the future for the club is Campbelltown and only Campbelltown.

I don’t agree Magpiecol. To neglect the inner west would be extremely stupid and very poor business sense. Yes, the future lies in South West (Blind Freddy can see that) due to increasing population of the region and the ever growing and prospering junior nursery of the Western Suburbs District, but having the bonus and benefit of the junior nursery of the inner west is still a significant reason why Rugby League still needs to have a presence in the inner west of Sydney, not to mention the historical link and emotional attachment to the Balmain Football Club. Leichhardt Home Games are events. Regardless whether its 4 or 3 games in the long term future, you can guarantee that the old girl will be full to the brim. Nostalgia is hard to come by for Rugby League fans, this is one of the last places that still provides that. Wests Tigers and the Game of Rugby League can ill-afford to lose it.

Nah, I would still have it an even split.

I was brought up in Balmain, Leichhardt is my favourite ground bar none. If such a stadium was built I would play 10 at Campbelltown and 2 at Leichhardt. I would also try to get some teams to move their home games against us to the new stadium. This stadium if built would be the best thing ever for our club.
I now live in the south western suburbs and league and football are king in these parts. I still think Liverpool/Fairfield would also be a better option than the proposed Blacktown Stadium. However we as a club should push as hard for the ground to be a Campbelltown.
For those who think AFL could use the new stadium it is not possible, Football Federation Australia want a new rectangular ground for football and league in Sydney’s west mainly to piss off AFL, not many votes in this area for providing AFL facilities.

Col will be presenting his proposal down at the Balmain AGM next year… But in any case I’m not getting into the whole game split thing again other than to say Wests Tigers is a joint venture and I don’t see either side getting more than 6 games at the ground of their choice.

If Campbelltown upgraded to 40,000, I’d imagine it would be one of the main venues in Sydney for the world cup.
It’d also mean we could have home semi finals there!

I dont think it matters how many seats that Campbelltown could fit, Id still like to see an even split with Leichardt.
