Poor old Kev and Nofo don’t get close enough to the attacker for it to be put down as mistackle

  • @gallagher:

Hahaha i saw someone hammering that out
It was bound to happen, ah well i tried to defend them

  • No surprises there.

  • noffa and naiqama are usually so far away from their men that they dont even get to attempt the tackle to miss it.

  • Check this out
Bryce Cartwright Made 501 Missed 57

I checked the top 5 halves, all made a lot more tackles than Brooks but he is still the clear leader

Maloney is next missing 71 tackles from 247 attempts

  • Heard McGreggor mention it in the pressor. 40ish to 22 for this match. Amazing you can win games when you are letting that many problems into your D. Nonsensical how we have the second worst D and running almost in the 8.

  • The two best defenders are in Reserve Grade.

  • @TYGA:

The two best defenders are in Reserve Grade.

    Yep. Says it all really.
I hope JT and Kidwell are aware of these stats

  • WT should make it a priority to sign a new, proven defensive coach next year. What we have obviously isn’t working.
We need to start again. We look like the under tens out there

  • @TYGA:

The two best defenders are in Reserve Grade.

who are the two best defenders?

  • Possibly over-simplifying things, but breaking those figures down into forwards and backs for a fairer comparison and showing missed tackles as a percentage of made tackles, different pictures emerge.

    BACKS
    Brooks 36%
    Tedesco 31
    Rankin 25
    Moses 23
    Nofoaluma 22
    Naiqama 14
    Simona 12

    FORWARDS
    Lawrence 8%
    Halatau 7
    Sironen 6
    Taylor 5
    Woods 5
    Aloiai 5
    Sue 4
    Grant 3
    Lovett 3
    Seumanufagai 3
    Farah 2

A little unfair on Chris Lawrence who is a back cum forward, but looking at it another way put him in the backs and he is the best of them rather than the worst of the forwards - possibly why he goes well in the halves? JT might not want a creative hooker, but with Robbie’s figures he has to be in there somewhere. Lovett is going really well in the forwards, and good to see first season Aloiai keeping pace with Woods, Taylor, and Jessie. Brooks doesn’t come out of this at all well - nor does Teddy, but small samples can be misleading. Kev and Tim as best defenders of the backs are a bit of a surprise.

  • @TYGA:

The two best defenders are in Reserve Grade.

Elijah Taylor and Aaron Woods are probably the two best defensive players we have. Taylor for his work rate, line speed, cover defence and work in the ruck and Woods for his work in the wrestle - he’s good at turtling players.

Farah has a great work rate but doesn’t dominate tackles enough to be regarded as our best defender (in my opinion).

  • A fullbacks figures are always going to look worse given they are the last line and have to contend with multiple players running at them in space. Also I think when a player crashes over the line to score with fullback hanging on, it also is deemed a miss.

Be interesting to see Teddy’s figures when compared to other fullbacks.

  • it would be interesting to compare us with the storm
