ISP team lineup 2017

I know it’s very early but with a few pending departures, was trying to think what we might be looking at in terms of depth in 2017.

Anyone got any thoughts on the potential team below:

1. Justin Hunt
2. Obed Kharwin or Roman Ioelu
3. Tony Tali
4. Watson Heleta
5. Ryland Jacobs

6. Jordan Rankin
7. Jack Littlejohn

8. Taniela Paseka
9. Matt Mcilwrick
10. Jordan Grant
11. Tyler Cassel
12. Rod Griffin
13. Joel Edwards

14. Jeremy Marshall-King
15. Dallas Graham
16. Esan Marsters
17. Junior Tatola

18. Bayley Sironen

I think you can scratch Tyler Cassel and Dallas Graham…

Mapesone will be in the 6…Wes Lolo Matt Eisenhuth and Jackson Williams may be still around…

Rest of the backs look about right…

Tyler Cassel Off?

Tali and Ioleu have only played maybe a dozen games in NYC, doubt they’d be called up yet.

There’ll presumably be some new nsw cup signings too, as they backline from this year seems to have completely disappeared bar Hunt, Heleta (?) and JLJ.

The problem with our current backs in the lower grades is they’re mostly too small. Looking at options to play centre and we currently have Heleta, Jacobs, Tali and maybe Mapesone at a stretch. The first 3 are all well under 6 feet, which in todays game is very small. Most outside backs are getting closer to 190cm not less than 180cm. It’s not always about size but as we know when defending your line against a bigger man, on the ground or in the air, it helps to match our opponents.

Sirro jnr jnr will also be in the 17 if fit.

With NYC being scrapped, I’d play the best 17 from ISP & NYC in Reserve Grade each week to give the kids time playing against men and stronger defensive structures.

If boys like Papenhuyzen are the future, throw them into ISP!

You’ll be seeing Felise barring injury.

Good to see Rhys Armstrong back at the club. I’d like to see him at six.

Tom Satterthwaite is a good prospect and I hope he has a good run next season.

Christian Yassmin is a Aust U20s Rugby winger and looks to be about six feet and 90 odd kgs. He has good size, step, power, pace and hands. If he can make the transition he could be a good prospect.

I’m trying to remember , but didn’t that Tsikrikas have a massive game in the NYC GF ??

This team is still incredibly unbalanced. I really can’t fathom the make up of this squad.

From my calculations across the 50 players contrracted to the NRL or NSW Cup only 12 would be considered backs (wing, centre, fullback). Considering we need 10 of these players every week we have absolutely no depth whatsoever, and few promising kids coming through the ranks either.

You can only imagine we’re going to be signing more nsw cup players, but surely this would have been done already? Those 12 players include the likes of Milone and Wheelhouse who are awful, and kids like Heleta and Jacobs, and Hunt who ended up playing in the halves.

Unless we’re planning to manufacture a bunch of reserve grade halves to reserve grade outside backs.

All of these signings were intriguing on paper, but then when looking at their profiles you realise how small many of these new guys are. WHY DO WE KEEP SIGNING SMALL PLAYERS WHEN THE LEAGUE IS GETTING BIGGER AND BIGGER. We just end up getting bashed all over the field. The days of having NRL forwards playing below 100kgs are well and truly over. Even having backs shorter than 6 foot and less than 90kgs are largely over.

We’re already weak in the backs, to not sign any depth is ridiculous. Godspeed young Papenhuyzen and Suli.
