Cleary's first night of mistakes

I thought his positional changes to replace Teddy were poor. In s tough physical battle i would have left Suli at centre. Simple change could have been Mitch defends at fullback, Elijah at 5/8.

Another mistake was having Liddle and McIlwrick on at the same time. I think in the crucial stages we had

Aloiai
McIlwrick
Ava
Edwards
Liddle
Taylor

No way that pack could contain them.

I would say our last tackle abominations late in the game cost us more than any positional selections.

You would have to almost give a loss of close to 150m to Moses plus Brooks’ kick out over the back, that changes field position set to set running drastically.

Don’t disagree with the idea of Mitch at fullback. But I can understand his thinking. Suli has played plenty of wing this year whereas Mitch has not played fullback in a long time.

Tough to criticise a coach in such circumstances.

I had no issued with Liddle and McIlwrick being on at the same time. The big boys were out of juice and Liddle and McIlwrick defend as well as anyone.

Gee Liddle impresses me.

I would have thought moses to 1 also…different dynamic might have been the go for him tonight chiming in from the back. I’ve been saying for ages for Taylor to play at 6.

Moses should have gone to fullback……it was a tough night all round…prob never win a game like that when everything goes against you.

The bottom line is the sharks through the use of 2 pieces of foul play took out Woods and Teddy…we may have got the penalty but the only side disadvantaged tonight was the Tigers.

The sharks are a dirty grubby team…hope karma hits them hard moving forward.

I think it was hard to criticise him tonight given the injury concerns. If Nofo was fit you could have put him at fullback and shifted Suli to wing but Nofo was busted. Moses may have been another option and throw Liddle to 6 but Moses probably would have dropped every kick to spite the Tigers.

Kevin played a bit of fullback under him at Penrith. He probably knew he would be comfortable there.

Mitch wasn’t their tonight he didn’t even go for the high balls, playing him at fullback wouldn’t have done anything. Nofo was on 1 leg as well.

Re both Hookers on at the sametime he had no choice as the forwards were getting tanked and gassed, evidence by Ava coming off for MM. Having both on at the sametime didn’t have a baring on the match anyway.

Think you’re harsh on the judgement.

If anything he should have pulled Moses as he was atrocious tonight

Moses should have been hooked…then we would of had a better chance…

Yep Mighty I would have hooked Moses at around the 50 min mark.

It was obvious that the hookers would have to be on the field together for a decent amount of time, so Moses to the back and Liddle to six would have been my choice, particularly as McIllwrick had been rested after about twenty five minutes. As they would have known for most, if not all of the halftime break that Tedesco was gone, I think the rotation should have been handled better, by making only one change, rather than shuffle a few players and weaken our middle.

you will loose 99 times out of 100 when you loose two of your best players before half time, have a winger on one leg and a no6 who didn’t want to play

Liddle at hooker and McIlwrick in the back row was a decent enough choice given the circumstances. Nearly pulled off a famous win.
Cleary didn’t do too much wrong, luck and a few lapses were the deciding factors, not coaching blunders.
