The Lurker: Never a dull moment in Tiger town

  • Never a dull moment in Tiger town
The Tigers are embroiling themselves in a fresh hooking drama after finally solving the long-running Robbie Farah affair at the end of last season.

The club gave promising hooker Matt McIlwrick - the heir to Farah’s number nine throne this season - a deadline to sign a new deal earlier this week.

McIlwrick is being chased by several rival clubs and the Tigers are attempting to put the pressure on him to stay on board.

But McIlwrick and his manager refused to be bullied into signing - opening a potential rift with the Tigers.

The young hooker - who ironically comes up against Farah when the Tigers meet Souths tonight - wants to explore his options rather than be hurried into signing a new deal.

The Tigers are now in a dilemma. Do they call McIlwrick’s bluff and pull the deal, losing one of the most promising hookers in the game, or give him an extension in the hope he stays.

Never a dull moment in Tiger town.

Thoughts??? I would be pretty filthy if McIlwrick were to leave us considering the fact we gave him a chance in FG when he was languishing in reggies.

How did we end up with such an ungrateful pack of players at the same time? Theres got to be more to it. Possible an us v them mentality (players v management) was fostered at the end of last year. Its the ghost of the Farah decisions.

  • I just can’t fathom this generation of players.

  • This is McIlwrick’s fourth club in 4 years. He’s only started to pick up form after 5 years. We gave him an opportunity, now he wants to dog it. Who even is McIlwrick’s management?

  • I reckon this is complete rubbish. Doesn’t make sense for either party. Why would we put a deadline on him? He wouldn’t be taking much cap space and if he decided to leave we could promote Liddle and find a suitable 2nd hooker reasonably easily. Why would he play games like that, when he has jumped from club to club? Surely finding a home would be important to him and he’s getting regular 1st grade at the Tigers.

    Will he finish his contract???
If so , how can you be filthy on him
Jeez some of you blokes must think that players all belong to you.

If he can get his future secured by moving on, that’s his decision not ours.
If you feel so precious about it , then offer to pay him the money he Would lose by staying , out of your own pocket. Why should he or anyone, knock back a bigger contract , just to suit you.
In another season or two, you will probably be abusing him and calling him a grub, or some other names.
Don’t worry Kiddies, maybe he’ll ask your permission before he decides to change clubs.
That’s it the rumour is anywhere the truth

  • No quotes, probably garbage.

  • Seems like fake news - usually is when it’s from the lurker

I certainly will not be abusing him and calling him a grub in future times. You are definitely right, though. By completing his contract, he’s done his part and is free to leave to wherever he wants, however is it too much to expect a little bit of loyalty within today’s age?

  • Probably more garbage than fact… Tabloid trash
“embroiled “” bullied “” deadline” “rift”
    yawn

  • ForumSupporter

Seems to have sucked a few in to the point of Outrage…Lurks has done his/her job…

  • Probably read a facetious comment here and decided to run with it.

Far out… MM at the beginning of the year said he was sick of being a journey man and how grateful he was for the Tigers giving him a shot… now after he puts in a solid start he has the “big 3” attitude… tbh I’m sick of these players derailing our club, I say **** him and throw him off the bus now together with his “mates”

Or perhaps it’s the club just reaping what it has sown? Or it’s just another piece of rubbish journalism to stoke the fire again? Who really knows.

  • Doubt many clubs are interested….
Despite him being a good player.

Dogs? Think they plan for Mbye to play hooker next year.
Eels ? Pritchard is ok but they might wanna upgrade.
    Who else is there really?
Most teams are sorted for hookers
