    Press Conference: NRL Round 15

    Sat 17th June, 10:25PM

Wests Tigers NRL Head Coach Ivan Cleary and stand-in captain Elijah Taylor spoke to the media after tonight’s heartbreak 24-22 defeat to the Cronulla Sharks.

After going down in the final play having led by eight points with five minutes to go, Cleary said it was a tough defeat for his side to take after playing gallantly earlier on.

“It’s pretty obvious that that one is pretty disappointing,” Cleary reflected.

"Our completions and better tackling needed to improve.

"We probably did a lot of things well up until the last few minutes to go up by eight, but our completions and edge defence just fell apart a bit under pressure which wasn’t good.

"At the end of the day, a lot of that comes down to having young players out there.

"We’re still trying to develop good habits that can stand up under pressure and those situations, so hopefully tonight is a good lesson on how it needs to be done for the full 80.

“It doesn’t feel too good at the moment, but that’s what it’s about,” he added.

We have have also seen it all before - same ol options, same ol missed tackles……

Difficult to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Better to buy a silk purse, which is what we are doing.

    Don’t blame the purchaser!!!

  • It is exactly what JT said for 2 years and he was torn apart for it on here from day one. Was true when JT said it and is true now. We dont have the personnel. The last 3 years has all been about readying for 2018 when we can finally slend again. Lets hope the wait is worth it.

  • The NRL need to take a look at how the Supercars people handle a presser. Sensible questions from the journo that you can actually hear. Sensible and articulate answers from the drivers.

  • The sooner Ivan puts a broom through the place the better. While the players are trying, quite a few aren’t up to it, and I think with the signings made for next season, the added experience will bode well for younger players such as Aloiai, Marsters, Suli etc.

surely it must be embarrassing for the NRL, the AFL can organise a press conference where you can hear the questions
