Boring as bat dung video. Byron will love it.

Byron would have had Fisher for breakfast that day…

There is a lot of hyperbole surrounding this game because Fischer was just a 13 year old. But it is in no way an outrageous game. Byrne, IMHO, played like a fool and under estimated Fischer, a common fault when playing greatly lower-rated players.

There is a saying - get your queen out early and lose it early or lose tempo due to it being attacked by weaker pieces. Byrne did this as well as not castling early - the greatest sin. About 99.9% of games are lost if one does not castle early as the king ends up being a sitting duck and the rook trapped in excessively.

Their rating difference was only about 400 points and due to USA’s rating system of only adjusting ratings annually their may not have been a rating difference at all.

I won four greatest upset wins in one tourney where the rating differences would have been greater than 400 points for some of them. The fifth greatest upset was when they decided to only award one prize per player so I would not hog the prizes - I was rife. But not as bad as when they did not play Farah in lead up to finals last year.

But I appreciate that someone has posted a chess game here and it was during a finals game - I thought that footie was more important than death.

    wha?

  • great game!

the bishop move is a classic, one of the basics in chess is to always mind any of your own pieces that come back to the king. that’s why the pawns can never be left defenseless and always have backing.

one of the biggest mistakes was to leave the white bishop without a backing in the middle and it came straight to the king.

    i miss chess
