Where has he been hiding the last few years. Did not achieve much wherever it was.
I feel sorry for this bloke, he was sacrificed by the club and coaching staff when pushed into first grade early
Groat will join the Tigers from the CQ Capras. At 192cm and 120kg, the 25 year-old will add size to the Tigers pack in 2018.
He was never first grade standard. It’s a cop out to say he was blooded too early and that is what ruined him. Plenty of players get blooded before they are ready. The ones who have it handle it, the ones who don’t, don’t. Groat never had it. He made Jack Buchanan look like Shane Webcke.
I think you need to realise that Groat was quite young when he started playing First Grade and the expectations that were put on him were never going to eventuate. Most props come into their own at around the mid 20s mark but our expectations were fuelled by the early success of Woods and Fifita. I thought he showed some promise for a kid and it wouldn’t surprise me if he was offered a gig somewhere in the NRL in the future; he certainly has some size about him and his power will peak in the next couple of years but as for coming back to the Wests Tigers, I can’t see that happening with the strength of our current front row/lock stocks.
Having said that, a general comment on the forum: It would be nice if we could make comment on those who don’t come up to our lofty standards, in a constructive manner instead of sticking the boot in at every opportunity and yes, I know that we are entitled to post whatever we like within reason but that’s just my obvservation on how to make the forum a better place.
