Lovett finds a new home

  • Wests Tigers forward Lovett joins Leigh

Leigh Centurions have signed back-rower Kyle Lovett from Wests Tigers on a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old has a lot of experience playing in the NRL, making over 50 appearances for the Tigers.

He met up with Centurions owner Derek Beaumont and head coach Neil Jukes in Sydney this week to complete the move.

And Jukes admitted that he is a big fan of Lovett, who can play in the back-row or at centre.

He said: “Kyle is a fast, direct, strong running forward who consistently in defence notches up 40 plus tackles a game.

“His durability will also add a real competitive edge to our team in a number of other positions too.

“We will continue to monitor his preparations in Australia for the next few weeks now so he is ready to hit the ground running when he arrives at the beginning of December.”

Lovett has represented New South Wales at Under-20s level and was chosen as Wests’ NRL Rookie of the Year following the 2015 campaign.

And Beaumont thinks the City Origin star has got what it takes to help the Centurions gain promotion back to Super League at the first time of asking.

He said: “Kyle is another great addition to our squad who is young and energetic with plenty of first-grade NRL experience for his age.

“It is a further statement of our intent to build a side capable of returning to Super League and one that we can grow and develop to improve to greater things.

“I am really looking forward to seeing his strong carries in a Leigh shirt.”

Exactly where his skill-set lies in the 2nd tier of English Rugby League.
Not too sure what games they watched as he didn’t have any strong carries in his game. Defense and workrate was his strongest suit however he was never a big hitter by any stretch.
Thought people would like to know where their fav son went to.

  • Good luck to him. Had to laugh at the comment regarding him being “fast” though.

  • “…who can play in the back-row or at centre”…yeah that went well last time

  • He will struggle in the ESL

  • As long as they dont put him in the centres he will go ok in the 2nd division in the uk.His workrate will be a plus over there

  • wish him all the best

  • Good on him. He’ll be a handy player over there.

  • What of Benji returinging to the halves?

IMHO if Reynolds or Brooks don’t earn and keep their spot I see no reason why Benji should be stopped.

Then again, I see Reynolds shifting to Center… But hey everyone disagrees with me and thinks he should go Hooker like Peter Wallace and Issac Luke…I totally disagree.

Now he should be 5/8 for now. But next two years I see Reynolds becoming Jamie Lyon/SKD like and being a ball playing center with us bringing a good 5/8 back in, possibly Tui moving to the halves.

Did u get all this from the above article or did u have a big night? Wrong thread 😃.

All the best to Kyle, not a fan but he played more FG games than I could have dreamt of playing. Having said that I think he probably felt the same way.

    Drugs are bad…speaking of which…

Good Luck Kyle…great base to see the World…hope you go well…

  • Had forgotten about him already - why did you remind me cotob.

“Fast, good at centre, strong carries ……”

What is that Beaumont guy on - same as Lovett I assume.

  • Just on players moving on, Jack Littlejohn has signed with Salford. Our depth for next season is looking much better.

  • How many of those ‘40 tackles a game’ are one-on-one? Or even with Lovett making first contact.
His tackling stats were always a bit inflated due to the amount of tackles he joins in after someone else has done the work.

  • All the best Kyle
You were lucky to have a 12 month reprieve, hope you enjoyed it and learned from the experience.

  • I wish him well…. :sign:
