North Queensland Cowboys Coach Paul Green has named a strong side for the upcoming trial match on Saturday, February 17 against Wests Tigers in Cairns.

Green has named a 22-man squad that includes Cowboys co-captains Jonathan Thurston and Matt Scott, who will both make their long-awaited returns from injury in the match.

Following their World Cup commitments, Michael Morgan, Jason Taumalolo and Jordan McLean won’t feature for the home side, but former Wests Tigers Holden Cup five-eighth Te Maire Martin will partner Thurston in the halves. Ben Hampton will feature in place of fullback Lachlan Coote.

Gates open at Barlow Park from 4:00pm local time, with Northern Pride taking on Cairns Connection at 5:30pm prior to the main event kicking off from 7:30pm (8:30pm AEDT).

Wests Tigers will name their squad for the trial match early next week.

Will be interesting to see what sort of side we field.

Well you can at least rule Benji out of playing for us in this one.

don’t know how many mins JT will play against us. we have injured him before. still it will be god for some of our youngsters (not that we have many) to play against one of the best.

Read somewhere JT and Scott looking to play around 30 minutes.

Wests Tigers by 40…

I think you mean to say the Wests Tigers will be playing in 40 degree heat.

Has Blake Leary moved on from the Cowboys?

I can smell the dencorub

bring it on

Might be a good opportunity to play Gamble off the bench and see how some of our new outside backs perform.

It won’t be 40, it will be in the low 30’s/high 20’s but the humidity will be the killer. Hopefully there’ll be a sea breeze.

Sorry, my enthusiasm sometimes gets the better of me. 😊

I was at the SCG at the Ashes when it got to plus 50 on the pitch.
Wasn’t to bad in the members bar with cold refreshments out of a glass though.
Joe Root ended up pretty crook

I’ll be there watching the boys playing in my home town
I played for the Leichardt juniors in the late 70’s
Followed them my whole life and love the team
Its been a long time between drinks but I will always support the Tigers
Looking forward to the trial and to this year
Let it be a good one
