Origin 2018: Brad Fittler’s new-look NSW Blues for game one

UPDATE: NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler is set to name as many as 12 debutants for game one of the State of Origin series on June 6.

Foxsports.com.au understand among them will be Penrith halfback Nathan Cleary, who played a starring role in his side’s big win over St George Illawarra on Saturday night.

Cleary will likely line-up alongside Panthers teammate James Maloney in the halves.

The in-form South Sydney look to have two selections in the team with Damien Cook at hooker and Angus Crichton winning a bench spot.

The team will be officially unveiled at 6:45pm at the Blues Ball in Sydney on Monday night.

Fittler told Channel 9 on Sunday the side was always going to have a host of new faces.

“It could be nearly double-figures (in debutants),” he said.

“If you go through the injuries alone from last year and the blokes that aren’t playing anymore, there’s anything up to eight players that can’t be chosen.”

Centres are defensively weak but could blow the game open. I like the forward pack and bench. Will be interesting to see the QLD to see how they match up. If the blues can roll them up the middle those halves and that backline could cause some damage.

Roosters will be missing so many players next week - Teddy, Latrell, Boyd & Napa. Let’s go on a run!

Aitken for James Roberts

Aitken for James Roberts

Surely this has to happen but it looks like Roberts is on a flight down.
