Penrith haven’t given up in their quest to bring former coach Ivan Cleary back to the club, with the Panthers deep in negotiations with Cleary to sign him on a three-year deal beginning in 2021. Cleary is currently contracted to the Tigers until the end of the 2020 season, and Fairfax Media understand the Panthers want to lock him down beyond that year.

Penrith superstar Nathan Cleary, Ivan’s son, is reportedly set to sign a long-term contract to remain at the foot of the mountains, which would run out at the end of the 2023 season, which would fit alongside Ivan’s new Penrith contract if he signs on the dotted line. Both Ivan and Nathan would love to team up at an NRL club during their careers, and the Panthers are doing everything they can to make it happen in Penrith.

If Cleary does decide to sign with Penrith for the 2021 campaign, it’ll certainly make it hard for the Tigers to keep Cleary to his contract, given his long-term commitment to another club.
