Fittler announces extended training Origin squad

Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler has announced his extended squad to take part in a training camp at the soon-to-open NSWRL Centre of Excellence on Friday 14 December.

Fittler has named 32 players in the squad, including the 19 players he used over three games who won the 2018 State of Origin series to return the Shield home for the first time since 2014.

Other players who have been named in the extended squad include Parramatta Eels winger Blake Ferguson, Newcastle Knights halfback Mitchell Pearce, South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Cameron Murray and Brisbane Broncos forward Tevita Pangai Junior.

“For most of them it will be the first time we’ve seen them since after the series,” Fittler said.

"It puts a full-stop on finalising the year and getting their feedback from this year’s series, and also allows us an opportunity to look ahead for our defence of the Shield in 2019.

“It’s always beneficial to get them to spend time together. We won’t be training but having them around each other will only further strengthen the bond they formed this year.”

An emerging NSW Blues squad is still in the process of being finalised and will be announced in the near future for a training camp on Thursday 13 December.

Curious as to how the half back of the year doesn’t even get a look in for the train-on squad……Woods and Pearce again…what happened to Freddy’s mantra of not picking players who’ve failed us in the past?

Probably the same team as last year with maybe a backline re-shuffle
Roberts misses out - Tommy T to centre & Cotric to wing.

Wow we’re the only team without a representative, apart from the Warriors who for obvious reasons don’t have anyone there. Pretty sad really, especially for a Sydney based team. I thought the Dally M halfback of 2018, at least, might’ve been given a shot just to get a taste of training alongside some rep players, but…. no.

We came 9th Freddy not bloody last!

Love it….all our players are on deck during the SOO period of the year. Call me selfish, but our roster is not strong enough to absorb the loss of rep players. A couple of years down the track things may change, but at present I am happy to be rep free

That was my thoughts as well. Rep free, should make it interesting around SOO time.

Mitchell Moses…?

He is Lebanon’s pride and joy now

i don’t think it’s as simple as that. most players out of these origin camps/training camps etc come out better players. Conversely, not being picked despite being in your best form gives you self-doubt

Luke Brooks went agonisingly close last year.
