Robbie Farah has named Jacob Liddle as the player most deserving of the starting hooker position at the Wests Tigers.

Ahead of his final season at the club, Farah is happy to hand the No.9 jersey over to Liddle to develop the emerging star as quickly as possible.

“I’d love to see nothing more than for Jacob to come through and force me out of first grade,” Farah told The Sunday Telegraph .

“I’ve been working really closely with him this pre-season and he is a great kid.

“He is willing to learn and he works hard. He has put on four or five kilos and I’ve been working hard with him on the wrestling mats trying to get him physically ready for a big season.

“We are really pushing each other at training and I’m trying to impart some of my knowledge on to him.

“I’ve really seen him grow, so hopefully he is in for a big season.”

The 35-year old said that new Tigers coach Michael Maguire has trusted him and fellow statesmen Benji Marshall to take on greater leadership roles and set the right example for their younger teammates to follow.

“Madge sees Benji and me as two important leaders who can pass on our knowledge to the kids coming through and hopefully leave a lasting legacy,” he said.

“Whilst we’ve got an important role to play on the field, I think Benji and I are at a point in our careers where we know we can really shape the culture of the club for sustained success long after we’ve moved on and retired.

“We both have that strong affiliation with the club and it means the world to us to finish our careers here under Madge.”

Farah gave his full support to the club’s appointment of Maguire and believes the Tigers’ future looks as stable as ever before.

“The boys have really responded well to Madge’s coaching style,” he said.

“He lives and breathes that (training) and he has been awesome since day one.

“I thought it was a great appointment by the club.

“I obviously worked with Madge at the Rabbitohs and he is a man that genuinely cares about the club and each individual.

“As tough as our pre-season has been, all the guys will tell you they’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.

“Madge’s style is really rubbing off on the playing group and I’m really excited about the things he is putting in place to ensure the club can have long-term success.”

Big call. All fluff?

Fluff. I think Farah knows he’ll start the year.

Liddle + 4 or 5 kgs + wrestling training
might just be what the doctor ordered. Robbie was unselfish enough to help/provide tips to Cook at the Rabbits, looks like he’s doing the same here. Good on him!
I think we’ll have both in the 17, with Robbie playing a larger % at the start of the season, but swapping lead/back-up as the year progresses.

Farah may well start the season but at his age, its hard to see him playing week in week out for 80 minutes. I’d prefer to start Liddle and use Robbie as backup.

I reckon Farah should start and Liddle should have a game against a bottom of the ladder team or even play in the trials to see if he should play ahead of Fazza

This is a bit more than fluff to me. These aren’t the typical sound bites. Our culture seems to be getting a lot better.

If Liddle puts on the weight but can maintain his zip and speed, he’ll be awesome - I always liked that about Killas game, he know when to go from dummy half, and was fairly successful with it - and he didn’t exactly have much toe.

Ideally IMHO Farah won’t start a 1st grade game in 2019.

He is already up to 90 kgs Dawg

Liddle is the future , let’s head towards the light

Give it a few months and Liddle will be playing alongside Teddy again in State Of Origin :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Farah will start off for the year.

If Liddle takes his place, I hope that there are no shenanigans. Also hope that the team is being picked on form, rather than reputations.

Liddle needs to show everyone what he is able to do. He is young and i’m sure he would have a lot of energy but IMO he needs to get a bit more fit and he would be the main pick in front of Farah. Think of the youth/energy of our team when he is fit enough, Reynolds, Mbye, Momo, Brooks, Fonua, etc.

If we surround Liddle with the right forward pack he’ll play SOO

He would be as quick as Cook over 0-15 metres ……maybe quicker

Commonsense says Liddle is the main guy here … Farah is done and dusted just one season remaining. Jacob needs to be the full time hooker by mid season or the club needs to go into the market and find one for season 20.
