Balmain saved from brink of extinction with new leagues club to come

  • This could really be the making of the club, it provides a strong unified front for us moving forward. Which could be especially important in the current NRL climate!

  • So my fear of beer bellied agenda driven directors was ill founded. Well done Wests Ashfield. We may be finally growing up.

PS - as an old Balmain boy I look forward to having a beer in the old club!

  • Finally a united front. This will definitely put others on notice. Well done Wests Ashfield.

  • One thing I’ll also add, anyone who now raises any Balmain v Wests rubbish is not a true supporter of our club. Ashfield has shown what should have always been known, our 2 great foundation parents have each others back.

Well said. I’d suggest any talk of that crap should get the poster punted.

  • I just wanted to add to my earlier post in that I am very happy for Wests Ashfield to support the Balmain juniors. That’s a great move. My early comments were in relation to the site of the leagues club. That has been plagued with lies, misinformation and bad management from day 1. I certainly don’t trust anything the council says in this matter. I would hate this to be the undoing of Wests Ashfield.

I don’t know that there is a lot of risk in that regard, they have taken on Balmains debts, I’d assume they can afford to cover that. It really is up to the council and the developers to get the development of the ground, there is no financial risk in that scenario for Ashfield, but there is a big upside if it gets off the ground.

  • @cochise Unfortunately I have heard all that sentiment many times before and it was the undoing of Balmain. Let’s hope you are right and everything goes as it should the site ends up being a great asset.

Apart from paying Balmains debts, and looking after the juniors, what are they risking?

  • @cochise. I don’t know but I’ve heard the mantra of low risk many times and there always seems to be something that pops up over that site that was never divulged until it was too late. As I said I hope you are right. Time will tell.

Balmain’s biggest trouble came from vacating the site and losing their primary source of income, that is not an issue for Ashfield. If the new club doesn’t get off the ground it will have no impact on Ashfield’s current operation.

  • Same here . Also, at Wests Ashfield to salute them.

  • Well done Wests. A untied front.

  • Yep agreed. I’m going to head over to Wests Ashfield when we are playing out of town this year. Time to walk the talk.

  • Thank you Wests Ashfield….Yippee
