Wests Tigers Head Coach Michael Maguire has confirmed good news regarding the potential return of Chris Lawrence after the veteran forward’s serious broken jaw suffered in pre-season.

The club’s all-time leading try-scorer, Lawrence has not played at all this season after suffering serious jaw and facial injuries in late February the lead up to Wests Tigers’ trial match against the New Zealand Warriors in Whangarei.

After numerous surgeries, the 30-year-old has now returned to training and contact drills, with Maguire hopeful of having the forward available in the coming weeks.

“He’s doing really well,” Maguire told reporters today.

"It be nice to get him back as soon as possible because of the person he is.

"He may be two to three weeks away, but he’s been training really well.

"He’s been doing a bit of contact now so it’s hopefully very soon.

“He ran around yesterday and ran into a few players," he added. "I think all the boys stood back and watched it but he wanted more so it’s a good sign there.”

Maguire also provided an update on injured five-eighth Josh Reynolds, who will likely be available for selection once more following the team’s Round 12 bye.

Reynolds suffered a knee injury in his side’s win over the Gold Coast Titans in Tamworth, but will be eying off a return to the action in Round 13 as Wests Tigers play their first home game at Bankwest Stadium against the Canberra Raiders.

Josh Aloiai (concussion) was the only other key player ruled out in the side’s win over Penrith in Round 9, with the Kiwi forward back available for selection now.

Wests Tigers will name their 21-man squad to face the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park on Thursday, May 16 at 4:00pm AEST on Tuesday afternoon.

BEST news i have heard all day

    😁 😁 😁 😁 😁 😁 😁 😄

  • I would say with Lawrence back in 3 weeks, Madge will keep McQueen in the starting side till Chris returns

  • Great news in regards to Rowdy , but I would probably want him to play 2 games in Canterbury Cup to get him match fit before bringing him up to NRL

  • That’s awesome news.

  • Awesome news.

  • Good to hear.

Would probably give him a game in CC first just to get back into the swing of things after such an ordinary injury. He’d easily get the 17 over the likes of Chee-Kam.

  • @Cultured_Bogan

    x2

it worked a charm for reynolds ( sort of)

and i sure the boys in the CC will be glad to have a player of his player on the team

  • Straight back into it via the bench for me. Unless we are on a 3-4 match winning streak.

  • We will need him to make the 8

Lets hope so…I’m not to sure…

I would suggest he will most definitely be playing Canterbury Cup for match fitness and confidence, and then we’ll see him on the bench.

  • From reports he lost quite a few kilos so will be interesting how he pulls up. Possible solution to our centre woes?

I quite like the combo the Brooks and McQueen are starting to build. If the building continues, it may be hard to swap Lawrence back into the team. Wonder how McQueen’s tackle effectiveness is? I haven’t noticed him missing too many.

  • Great news he is progressing well.

Very hard injury to return to full contact, look at Penrith Mansour and RCG both had similar injuries and they haven’t been the same player since returning. Ivan even dropped Mansour this week.
