Matterson not phased by loss ahead of Cowboys clash

Wests Tigers forward Ryan Matterson says the side’s best performances are still ahead as they look to end a run defeats this Friday as they take on the North Queensland Cowboys.
Held scoreless by a dominant Canberra Raiders side in their most recent game, Matterson said the feeling was one of disappointment off the back of the result, but the Origin hopeful emphasised his belief that the right result wasn’t far away.
“Obviously it’s tough for any side coming off three losses,” Matterson conceded.
"But we’re positive and we’re working hard.
"Effort isn’t a thing of question for Wests Tigers and we’re trying every week.
“It’s just about putting the things we’re doing at training in to the game and we’re extremely confident we’ll do that going in to this week’s game.”
Off the back of his commitments with the NSW Origin squad as 18th Man last week, Matterson was a standout in his return to club football, and said he was determined to bring the intensity of the representative arena back to his day-to-day football.
“The professionalism is definitely something I noticed in the side,” Matterson said.
"I really felt the intensity when training with those Blues boys and that’s something I want to bring back here at Wests Tigers — to train every session at a high intensity.
“There’s nothing external that’s affecting our football,” he added. "It’s just ourselves.
"There’s no outside noise but we just need our performances down pact and, obviously, we want to win more games as a result of that.
“I’m fully confident that the best of the Wests Tigers is yet to come.”
