Home Ground situation needs to change

I’m hearing that Stuart Ayres is pushing to cancel the redevelopment of ANZ in favour of a new stadium at Penriff 😡

Yeah just read that, Stuart Ayres is a crook judging by some of his other actions mentioned in the article!

Also released today.
The new plans for the $810 million redevelopment of the ANZ Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park have revealed.
The NSW Government today released the plans, which include reducing the stadium’s capacity from 85,500 to 70,000, for public comment.
There will be capacity for a further 20,000 people on the field for concerts.
The plans include changing the playing field from an oval to a rectangular shape.

Seating in the lower and middle sections would be redeveloped so the seating bowl is steeper and gives people a better view of the field, while bringing them closer to the action.

Parts of the northern and southern sections of the roof would be replaced to ensure all seats will be covered and protected from rain, while the eastern and western sections would be extended.

New entrances would be build at the northern and southern facades and new advertising signs provided at both entrances. High-definition video replay screens, LED lighting and other improvements will be included.
Amenities would be upgraded including an expansion of the food and beverage concessions, upgrades to the bathrooms including more female facilities, moving corporate suites from level 3 to level 2, upgrading change rooms to become unisex and a refresh of the member and corporate facilities.
To facilitate the redevelopment, four trees will be removed to establish a temporary construction compound.

NSW Planning Department’s compliance, industry and key sites executive director Anthea Sargeant encouraged people look at the plans and to give feedback online.
“Community consultation is an integral part of the planning process and the applicant will have to respond to the feedback we receive,” Ms Sargeant said.
The public will have until Wednesday, October 23 to comment on the plans.

The redevelopment of Stadium Australia (also known as the ANZ Stadium) has been controversial as it only opened 20 years ago ahead of the 2000 Sydney Olympic and Paralympic Games.
At the time it was the largest Olympic Stadium ever built and the largest stadium in Australia.
The NSW Government has defended the redevelopment and argues that changing the shape of the stadium from oval to rectangle would better accommodate sports like rugby and football, as well as other forms of entertainment.
The redevelopment, along with another proposed knockdown and rebuild of Sydney’s Allianz Stadium in Moore Park, became a key issue during the NSW election early this year.
Initially the Berejiklian Government planned to demolish the ANZ Stadium as part of a $2 billion rebuild plan for both stadiums but following the March 23 poll, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced it would refurbish the venue instead.

Reckon that making the finals would be much, much, much more beneficial and not only financial, but long lasting, than the scraps we get as a bonus for the home ground crowd at Parramatta.

Agree - just saying that’s the reason .

Another way of looking at it- is those 2 points we lost to Parra at our home match vs them at BW Stadium (read Parramatta homeground to all and sundry- esp Parra Eels), if we had played and won at LO / CSS / ANZ would have got us into the finals series.

All the talk of money etc means nothing if the real game of league where you are playing to win to get enough points to get into finals. We missed literally by one winning game.

Yeah, one game. Like the last game of the year. If only we played that one at LO.

G’day @Elderslie_Tiger: “the introduction of Macarthur United to the A-League in 20/21” is getting closer every day.

Re your very sensible and really interesting post regarding the idea/ possibility of them and Wests Tigers cementing a future together…have you heard anything recently in the local press or from local people in relation to a joint venture at CSS?

My feeling is… if Wests Tigers are smart enough and on the ball, as to our team no longer being nomads, they need to jump at this once in a lifetime opportunity to secure our playing future.

What could be better?.. Soccer uses the ground when our season finishes and vice versa…the ground is fully utilized all year round and maybe the Bulldogs can come and play at our place when we want to play a game or two at Leichhardt etc… shared development and upkeep costs so we don’t need Mr. Meriton…we won’t be playing in Parras backyard…and we won’t be playing in a ‘stadium without soul’, at Homebush.

In my very humble!!! opinion 😇 [for all those that consider I am overly opinionated 🗣 😱 ]…it’s a no brainer 😜…so we need to jump NOW or this God given gift will be gone forever…and that’s much tooooooo long for us fans to wait.

Have a great day 😋

With both Greenburg and V’Landys supposedly pro suburban ground and V’Landys looking to give fans what they want (look at racing going gang busters) we can only hope all should be revealed shortly.

I love Leichhardt Oval.
But at some stage, long term, we need one home ground to become our fortress.
And where other clubs simply don’t like to play!

@tiger_one We need to think of something outside of the box. Take for example the Raiders and the Viking Clap - that was a great idea. very good for crowd participation, and unsettling for away fans (and maybe players?)

Sell out all our home games and all hurl abuse at the opposition players unsettling them massively would be great! 😁

I think the the club should just abandon the Campbelltown / MacArthur region all together .

  • They do not seem to have engaged the community as a merged club
  • they are building COE in concord which says everything about direction of club
  • ownership of the club is solely from the inner west being both west’s Ashfield and tigers
  • the players have never bought into Campbelltown being home and constantly talk up LO as spiritual home
  • bankwest and anz are relatively close to LO compared to CSS, which shows club has never been serious about MacArthur area
  • when was the last time or how often have marque games been played at CSS then compare that to LO

the club had its opportunity to engage with the area and didn’t!! Whether it’s the better region or smarter to be there is irrelevant , they have shown contempt for area by actions . They should just settle full time at ANZ

For a playing group that supposedly loves Leichhardt, they’ve never won a big game there in front of a big crowd. Not one.

I think the club has a plan to play at the new ANZ Stadium with the club and three leagues clubs operating between Concord, Rozelle, Ashfield and Flemington. Perhaps a game each at Leichhardt and Campbelltown too. I think the politics/complete split between Wests Ashfield and Wests Campbelltown has pretty much cemented the club out of the Macarthur. Further, I think people see NRL teams today being a bigger ‘brand’ than the areas with which they are meant to represent, perhaps especially in our situation too as we aren’t ‘Balmain’ or ‘Canterbury’ and instead a rather vague description of who we represent - ‘Wests’ can be anywhere west of the Sydney CBD realistically.

I have actually found it best to stop responding to his posts, he is not happy when people disagree with him and this shows very clearly in his posts. That way he thinks he is right and goes on his merry way!
