Belinda Sharpe breaks new ground as first female NRL referee

The word hoodoo is overused these days…

What do the players address her as?

“but miss… He stripped it”

“excuse me ma’am, I believe my opponent propelled the ball forward constituting a knock on”

“opsm for ya sweetheart”

Starts with a B Ink and gets far worse if she screws us over

@Cultured_Bogan hoodoo guru’s, lets go back to those days of the NRL anthem!

I can remember us being good then… that is my team after all. On topic, hopefully she doesn’t pull a Manu/Ferguson style foot-in-touch error in her first game, but really wouldn’t surprise.

It’s not about male vs female with regards to poor refereeing these days, it is a distinct lack of feel for the game and inability to make decisions on the go to retain the flow of our game. Hence, each of the last two seasons they get told to be involved less in the ruck, strips, etc. etc. until somehow a few teams are getting royally boned every single week by pea hearts with a whistle around their neck. What makes it worse is the exhaustive and total failure of our million dollar bunker, it is genuinely a disgrace to the sport and Australian scientific advancements in general, whilst at the same time they retain the same dinosaurs and ex-players who are seeing the game in black and white like many of their playing peers (note how ex players commentate the game and barely seem to bat an eyelid at some of the more brow raising decisions).

At least with a woman actually officiating there is every chance she wants to prove her worth and will be impartial to all teams, at least initially, with some of the grey area rules

Couldn’t get any worse…

Not to sure…I’m married to one of these women things and I get penalized for things I did years ago.
Doesn’t even have to be related. Imagine it …penalty Broncos! wests tigers number 8 bowled a wide in indoor cricket 3 years ago

She must be married now …sure her surname was Sleeman from memory

I wonder if the players are more respectful towards a female ref than a male one? It could be a really strong move to help keep players in line.

@jirskyr Or it could probably end a players career lol.

You would assume so …
But If she’s as incompetent as her male counterparts the novelty will soon wear off .
Hope she gets a Storm game and tells Scam Smith to shove it lol .

Isn’t she the touch judge who missed a NQ foot into touch in an u/20’s semi that saw the Wests Tigers eliminated? Perfect grounding & deserving of promotion.

Yep.
Also the touch judge that did nothing to try and stop play when Nene Macdonald went down with a broken ankle earlier this year.

Best of luck to her though, God knows we need a shake up of the refereeing ranks.

Thia is great. I reckon she’ll shoot straight to the top ranked ref. Not that I know of her ability, but the bar is pretty low at the moment and women in general have less ego. Players won’t rush her either I don’t think (well maybe Moses will) It’s got to the point it of being ridiculous with the amount of carry on after a try is scored or after a dropped ball. Good luck Belinda.

Is she related to a Sutton?

Why not give her a go? The bar couldn’t be set any lower at the moment.

So you’re saying only men have the right to be a ref?
