Alex Twal re-signs with Wests Tigers.

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that forward Alex Twal has signed a new playing contract with the club.

The new, two-year deal will see Twal remain with Wests Tigers until the end of the 2022 season.

A standout junior representative forward, Twal joined Wests Tigers midway through the 2017 season and quickly made his first-grade debut against the Newcastle Knights in Round 17.

He would go on to play every game for the remainder of the season before making for his international debut for Lebanon at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

Starring in the Cedars’ memorable run to the knockout rounds, Twal would further consolidate his spot in Wests Tigers first-grade squad with 21 appearances in 2018 before going one step further in 2019 by featuring in every game during the year.

The 23-year-old recorded career highs in offloads, metres gained and tackles made under Michael Maguire in 2019, and finished as one of the most effective tacklers in the league with a 95.1% tackle efficiency rate.

The Parramatta City Titans junior said he was extremely pleased to re-sign with the club.

“It was a really easy decision for me to re-sign,” Twal said.

“This club gave me my debut and I’m really happy with where the club is going and what direction Michael Maguire has us going in.

"I’m just excited to be a part of it going forward.

“I’m still a long way away from the player I want to be in the NRL but I’m really happy with my progress. This club has helped me so much as a player and a person, and I’m really looking forward to where things go in the next few years.”

Wests Tigers Head Coach Michael Maguire said he was delighted to see Twal remain with the club and said he was excited to see him continue to move forward in the coming years.

“I’m really excited that we’ve been able to secure Alex for another two years,” Maguire said.

“I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the way he grew his game throughout the year, and I have no doubt that his role in this team will only continue to grow in the coming years.

“For a player of his age, Alex has really matured on and off the field and we’re very excited to see him continue his development into a real leader for Wests Tigers.”

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said he was very pleased to see Twal re-sign with the club.

“On behalf of all at Wests Tigers, I’d like to extend my congratulations to Alex on this new deal and say how happy we are he is remaining with this club,” Pascoe said.

“Alex has been a big part of Wests Tigers from the moment he joined this club, and there is no doubt that he clearly has a bright future ahead of him. He is a fine young man and will play a key part in this club achieving the success it deserves.”

But he’s mates with Matto…

Great news, he’s a really important part of the pack.

Imo this is our most important off season signing…even if we sign trell…reason? Because this proves that the lil scummy taterson couldnt breach twals love for the tigers…meaning the character and ethic of the team is at an all time high…fantastic work madge…you now have my 100 percent faith no doubts

Woo, great news! Who’s next? 😁

Great news.

Hopefully he pulls on the Lebanon jersey for the next world cup.

Another great signing for the Wests Tigers. It’s been a good couple of days so far.

Good on you Alex - great to have you here for 3 more years.

Cool. Mitchell next pls.

Excellent news… Good to see we are retaining the good ones. NEXT…

Good to see this. It matters!

Garner yesterday and Twal today. Both extending with a year still to go on their contracts. So much for thinking Maguire trains them too hard. Looks like that only applies to one individual.

Madge recently spoke about having the right character of player at the club. Looks like we are going a long way to achieving that.

Would have been funny if Twal resigned for more than Matto did with Parra.
