We couldn’t keep Benji because we had too many halves. Reynolds is gone, we have spare cash and the Tigers is his home. He brings a mountain of experience and has kicked field goals from halfway.

Hell Noooooo …
We have done such a great job removing the deadwood and our decision was correct. The fact no other club has signed him says it all and the players have come back fit and and all look very happy…Check your dashboard. I think your Sarcasm meter might be on the blink.

Are we living in Gobbler’s Knob? Is this Groundhog Day?

With the current talk centering around Benji being offered $150K for a year with the Roosters, I wonder if we couldn’t do something to keep him in our colours, in spirit at least. Could we give him the same amount to be captain/coach of the Wests Magpies. He gets some money, some time for a bit of media work, doesn’t take a spot in the 30, and creates massive interest in the reserve grade comp. I assume we’d need to throw the coach bit in there or his wage would kill us cap wise. Surely the NRL/NSWRL would sign off on this for the interest generation alone.
-
We should let him go. I love the guy and I reckon he should play on if he wants too. I just think we need to move forward with a different halves combination.
If he was willing to play reserve grade and was given just a reserve grade contract I’d be cool with it.

We can’t afford charity… Others may

He’s been a wonderful player but we need to move on from him in any sort of playing capacity.
-
Yes, that was my point. Not part of the top 30 an ineligible to play 1st grade, but still a part of the Tigers/Magpies family.

We need to treat our past champions better if we want to attract and retain future champions.
-
Look at how Mini is treated at the Roosters. I imagine the defection of Tedesco was due in no small part to him whispering in his ear about how well is/was treated.

And then if there is a few injuries he could come back into the FG team. Except, its the last game of the season and Wests are playing at LO against Penrith…plot twist, WT need the win to secure their first finals appearance in a decade.
Spoiler- Penrith win 42-6. Benji announces he wants to run around again at the presser.

NO player is bigger than the club… Plenty of top line players have been moved on by their clubs

We probably do in some cases, but not in Benji’s case.
He treated the club poorly, twice, the club gave him more than they had every right too, we don’t need Benji here this year in any capacity, the club needs to have a break from him. -
I’m not saying bring him back into the 30. I agree that we need to move on. What I am saying is that if he is intent on playing on, I’d rather it be as a Magpie (not Tiger), rather than as a Rooster.
-
If only Benji had announced his retirement at the end of the season and he did his lap of honor, we gave him the black tie dinner send off and he spent the rest of his life enjoying time with his family and as a well paid celebrity in the sporting media.
Gee we can make some bad choices at times.
To be fair, I guess we all make them.
