Once a game manager took over...

The moment Harry slipped into first receiver we looked like a footy team.

Marshall did his best to ruin it with a couple of rocks / diamonds plays…but Grant ran the last ten like Smith or Cronk would have.

Every play had purpose and build to the next one.

What a difference.

Brooks suddenly freed up…Mbye finally got some good ball when he linked.

This is what a team with a real leader / game controller can look like. All we need to do now is find another Harry Grant.***

***Noting that won’t be easy…but at least we saw what it might look like.

At no point did harry grant play first receiver tonight . He was a ball playing lock . It was the same position Elijah Taylor played well during peak Taylor ball .
Brooks won us that game . His choices to get us on the front foot, as well as mbye out the back feeding the centres .

You could see the speed Grant played at and the direction. He was the one leading each set.

Man Brandon Smith must be nervous there is someone who not only plays better at hooker, but also plays pretty damn good at that small lock forward position.

Benji was a huge letdown tonight. His head wasn’t in it and I thought he was trying to get suspended but didn’t know how. I had uncharitable thoughts (ban avoidance) when he kicked on the third.

When we had a full spine (albeit two were hookers) we suddenly looked great.

He just has no footy IQ.

He has always played on instinct…which was fine when Prince ran the show. But been terrible most years since, barring one or two after Bennet coached him and forced him to take less risk. Last few years been right back to his rocks / diamonds 20/80 stuff.

Because he was playing lock !! And hot tip, the big reason as well, was the lightning quick dummy half brought on with 10 to go , Meaning the ruck , has to tight up . Because , you know, des can actually coach.

The difference was not one player , but Liddle , Grant , Brooks and mbye . That’s the guys who won us the game . But make no mistake , Brooks made the right choice every time down the stretch , because he’s the one barking where the team goes . Because that’s what the 7 does . When you’re a forward and you “code name for backs ball , and you don’t get out of the way , you here GET OUT OF THE WAY profanity etc”.
This also includes the dummy half now playing 13.

I get the harry love affair but seriously , give the credit where it’s due .

He def ran the plays, whether at lock or 7 and directed the team. he set the tempo…we were direct and had purpose. No more crabbing across field at half pace.

Brooks…I am giving credit…looked much better with the extra time and room.

Yep. We need to give him credit where it is due. He came up with a couple of big plays including that last kick.

Don’t discount the importance of Liddle’s passes off the deck. Flat and fast.

Luke owned the closing exchanges and Harry was a vital link man.

Liddle has a superb pass from dummy half. He gets the forwards moving forward.

Yep. That was Brooks game management out there. All we needed to do was hold the ball and give it to Brooks/Mbye/Grant.

Benji had a shocker.

Yep . His deception is awesome . He doesn’t have the ball playing though . Which is why he and grant would be an amazing pairing together
