Wests Tigers recorded a hard fought 18-10 victory tonight over the Warriors at Campbelltown Sports Stadium in round 12 of the Toyota Cup competition.
The opening 20 minutes saw limited opportunities for both teams as they felt their way into the match.
Wests Tigers did cross the line once through prop Junior Roqica but it was ruled no try due to an obstruction.
Wests Tigers opened the scoring in the 21st minute when half-back Jay Florimo beat one defender to score next to the posts. Full-back Jake Mullaney converted for a 6-0 lead.
The Warriors scored two minutes before half-time when centre Sosaia Feki barged over near the posts for a 6-4 scoreline. The try was converted by half-back Shaun Johnson for a 6-6 scoreline at half-time.
A touch of luck saw the Wests Tigers jump to a 10-6 lead early in the second half. Hooker Pat Politoni put a kick through 30 metres out from the posts and just when it looked as though Warriors winger Ivan Penehe had the ball covered in-goal, he fumbled the ball to allow Politoni to score. Mullaney converted the try for a 12-6 scoreline.
Wests Tigers bombed a try when a pass from dummy half saw lock and captain Matt Hyland drop the ball just metres from the tryline with his man beaten.
Mullaney then converted a penalty goal from 30 metres out for a 14-6 lead.
The Warriors got back to 14-10 when centre Siuatonga Likiliki showed some pace to beat two defenders to score out wide. The try was not converted.
Wests Tigers sealed victory when winger Dayne Craig dived over in the corner to score for an 18-10 lead. Mullaney failed to convert the try from the sideline.
Good solid win enhancing our top 4 spot.
Well done boys!
Not their most convincing performance this year but like any good side they found a way to win regardless
