I thought it was inconclusive whether the ball hit the ground first or Gutho’s foot… and the onfield ref had ruled a No Try, so shouldn’t have been a try IMO. However, the on-field ref ruled a No Try because he thought Penisini would not have scored- I personally thought Penisini overshot the ball and the hand on him had no impact on him dropping the ball.
All in all, if the on-field ref had ruled a Try, it would’ve been a Try but there wasn’t conclusive evidence to overrule that.
I hate it when wrong decisions are made in the Bunker with relative stress-free environment…
I thought it was inconclusive as well and was happy to say he kicked it.
The ref said No Try because no try was scored and send it up for either a sin bin or penalty try. I don’t agree it was a penalty try as there was a fair bit going on around the ball.
That’s how it looked to me too. I can’t see how you could rule that as a penalty try, but it was probably a legitimate penalty for tackling a player without the ball. Given the timing, the game was already gone for Newcastle and the poor decision won’t have affected the outcome.
