The Laurie Daley pearls of wisdom thread

  • This thread is dedicated to all the great quotes from L. Daley, the NSW selector you can count on.

“The team that can score more points should win this match”

“The Bulldogs are a team that like to play from in front.”

    Fire away with some more.

  • Oh I heard one tonight at halftime in the Raiders/Dogs match.

It went along the lines of ‘The team with points will score’

He meant to say possession instead of points lol.

“New South Wales will need to score tries if they are going to beat Queensland”.

“If they get a good start anything could happen”.

honestly, just hit ‘pause’ on your foxtel remote when ever he is in frame and ask yourself the follow question:
“is this person really a guy who should be a leading authority of the game?”

Kul, you hit the nail on the head with that comment. He offers nothing but imbecilic thoughts and comments. When great players retire, they should either stay involved in rugby league and others should drift off into the sunset to protect the good name they built in rugby league. Mr L. Daley poses as the perfect example as to why he should have drifted off into the sunset.

“Rugby League is a simple game played by simple people. Rugby union is a complex game played by w@nkers”.

“I think sometimes selectors are there to help the coach because the coach hasn’t got set ideas on who he wants given he has been involved in NRL coaching at times”. 😕

“Regardless of what happened this year, I was always not going to be there but I just felt it was time for me to move on”.

(talking about coaching) “I really love it and I enjoy it but it’s different doing it in a one-off situation other than a 365-days-a-year type of role”.

“We’ve got to discuss whether we treat this as Game 1 of 2011 or we treat it as last game of 2010? Do we pick the best team now or the best team of the future?”

“I’ve always thought there’s no such thing as a dead rubber in Origin football and you’ve got to pick a team to win.”

I made a thread like this a while ago about things Daley says.

I remember during the ARL Super League war he said: “I would rather play AFL than to play again in the ARL”.

I jus love how he can take an entire set of six to get a sentence out because he pauses after every two words….u can hear Warren Smiths eyes rolling

  • I am making this one up, but:

“If they hold onto the FOOTBALL, you’ll see them do some tremendous things with the FOOTBALL in this FOOTBALL game. Really, the Raiders are the type of FOOTBALL team that need to get the FOOTBALL going forward in order to make the FOOTBALL sing late in the set.”

    How funny……

I have a tigers buddy who nearly screams every time Daley says the word football…drives him MAD!!!

You can tell Brandy and Wazza dont rate him,and I agree with them…takes him 5 minutes for him to say something, and its usually the blinking obvious.

Imagine Daley and Micheal Holding commentatinbg together,

PS…I met Daley on the plane ride to the GC game last year, and he loves rugby league football and he was a genuinely good bloke…he chatted away about footy with me and my mates.

  • “They need to use the football”

that one ALWAYS gets me. What are they meant to use? Their socks?

  • For some reason I read this as the Daine Laurie pearls of wisdom thread

  • I’m sure he is a good bloke but still whenever he says a word that starts with “P” such as “Players (Especially), Penalty and Panthers” his cheeks puff out like a puffer fish and to me he looks constipated when he does that.
