Wests Tigers backrower Gareth Ellis has been charged with tripping but is still free to play in Sunday’s clash with Sydney Roosters.
Ellis caught Matt Orford with his foot in a clumsy attempt to tackle the Manly captain at the Sydney Football Stadium on Monday night, and was duly charged with grade one tripping.
The offence carries only a 90-point penalty, while an early guilty plea would reduce that to 67 points.
Ellis as until midday on Wednesday to enter a plea.
The three players charged on Monday - St George Illawarra’s Jamie Soward, South Sydney’s Chris Sandow and Brisbane Broncos’ Dave Taylor - all entered early guilty pleas and are clear to play this weekend.

He should just take the early guilty plea… because he did catch him with the leg first…
-
Gosh they charged him with that late. It didn’t make the list this morning.
-
Because the charge only carries 90 points if he were to challenge and lose he’d still be free to play wouldnt he ?
-
I think he’s very lucky to not miss a game, I thought he’d be gone for a week or two.
-
The main thing is that he will line up against the Roosters on Sunday and hopefully take down Mason again.
-
Doesnt he have carry over points from a few weeks ago
-
i thought that he could’ve been suspended for that
-
Excellent to hear he is free to play against the roosters and smash mason for the second time this year.
-
Lucky, but I will take it
-
Didn’t he get off an earlier charge???
-
It’ll be great to see him play and belt that grub Mason.
