I would hope that the money set aside for a new scoreboard would be put into something more useful.
The old scoreboard tells us the score!! That’s all we need to know, isn’t it? (It is heritage-listed, isn’t it - or it should be!! More heritage than the Cauldron at Olympic Park!!)
Tigergran…with all due respect,
I’ts a gee up surely…
Toilets that have no soap or sinks in some cases…A granstand that is barely standing and they are going to put in an electronic scoreboard and Bomb the best feature of the joint…
And still none of that increases the capacity of the place…
Upgrade or waste of cash…?

16/09/2010 3:29:56 PM
The upgrade of one of Rugby League’s most iconic grounds, Leichhardt Oval, will continue as part of a proposal by Wests Tigers.
Labor Councillors from Leichhardt Council have thrown their full support behind the proposal and will ask Council staff to prepare a funding plan for the $2 million third phase of the Leichhardt Oval upgrade.
The proposal for the Leichhardt Council owned facility will include the replacement of antiquated seating in the Latchem Robinson grandstand and concourse, the construction of a new amenities and toilet blocks, and the installation of a new scoreboard and big screen.
Labor Councillor Darcy Byrne said completion of the works would be a tremendous outcome for all concerned.
"The Tigers and Leichhardt Oval have a special place in the hearts of local people and Rugby League fans in the Inner West,’’ Byrne said.
"Local Labor is committed to seeing the upgrade of Leichhardt Oval completed.
"The State and Federal Governments have now contributed more than $5 million to improving Leichhardt Oval so now it is time for the Council to make an additional financial contribution.”
Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys said the Club is very grateful for the generous support of Federal, State and Local Governments, and in particular, the personal support shown by Anthony Albanese, Federal Member for Grayndler and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Local Government.
“Leichhardt Oval is Rugby League’s most loved venue and we are all very conscious of preserving its character and personality,’’ Mr Humphreys said.
“We are also very aware of the need to deliver a match day experience in keeping with the expectation of today’s NRL spectator.
“Should this proposal be approved, it will allow us to streamline the flow of fans in and out of the venue, enhance comfort levels, and greatly improve the standard of amenities including food outlets and toilets.
“The upgraded Leichhardt Oval would be even more attractive to our fans, especially to families who are such an integral part of the Wests Tigers Club and our game.
“We look forward to working with Leichhardt Council and Mr Albanese on the continued development of Leichhardt Oval.”
The timber bench style seating around the perimeter needs replacing with new aluminium school style seating.
Thos fold down back seats should be ditched too….they may be able to flog a few to the odd die - hard.
A big screen/scoreboard in the NW corner oposite where the big screen is now would be helpfule for those seated on the hill side and south end
