Apparently due the ‘healthy’ Aussie lifestyle the Australian franchise of the legendary American donut chain Krispy Kreme has been placed into administration.
I remember a few years back when they entered the market and had Paul Sironen as a figure head they did some good thing’s for community fund raising.
I live in the bush and personally have never had Krispy Kreme or rival Donut King, although looking at me you’d think otherwise, but I digress, I know that a lot of schools out here in the sticks sold Krispy Kreme donuts as part of their fund raising, much like a Pie drive or selling Christmas cakes etc etc.
Are there any people out there who will be genuinely upset by the news, apart from the Krispy Kreme franchisee’s and employee’s?. -
I dont mind their donuts especially with the filling inside. There’s one at Woodbine (Just up from Leumeah station) and one at Macarthur Square. But the prices are ridiculously high, buy a dozen and it can cost you 20 odd bucks. So it doesnt surprise me they went into administration and to be honest i prefer some hot doughnuts from Donut King anyway for a fraction of the price.
Lucky they didnt accept my job application at one of their stores earlier in the year!

Sweet revenge for the big donut puncher after they punted him ……
-
They are nice but too expensive for me. I am lucky in that I can eat what I want and won’t change body size wise. Price is the big factor for me. 20 bucks and thats just for 12 original glazed doughnuts. For that same 20 bucks, I can get 3 packs of white chocolate coated red liquorice and some rocky road from Derrel Lea.

And a Chocolate Log Allan!!
Make sure next time you are there you get a Chocolate Log, they are in the chocolate bar section at the counter.

Do they come in white chocolate? I could eat white chocolate for the rest of my life.

Still can’t beat hot cinnamon donuts from the Berry donut van. Never really liked Krispy Kreme.
-
Sorry Allan, only chocolate but give them a go. I would love to hear what you think. Rumour has it that John Laws used to have them delivered by the box full.
And yes Willow, hot cinnamon donuts are the way to go (although they are not 12 for $3.50 anymore)

Didn’t Sirro have a $$$$ stake in this Company?
-
It is voluntary receivership. They will sell off assets that are not turning over enough and still have a presence in the country. It will be nothing more than consolodation and restructure. Happens every day in some scale in business

The one in Penriff, for a period, was the #1 place in Sydney for all the drongos and wankers to congregate and loiter without actually buying anything. No wonder they’re in receivership.
Still doesn’t beat the Penriff “Maccanats”

Im a sugar Junkie, Im down to 4 in my standard coffee from 6-7 and KK was to much for even me to justify.
Didnt like the standard glazed however the samplers pack usually lasts about 3 mins when coupled with a tall glass of milk.

I agree that the price is the killer. Having just come back from the States, the price of a donut at KK and/or Dunkin Donuts is fraction of what it costs here (try a bit over a $1 for a Maple flavoured one which was fantastic rather than close to or over $3).
I remember when they first opened they were massive. Some of them had drive-thrus with poor sacks waiting hours to get donuts. Crazy times…

I live in Glen Alpine which is in the Campbelltown area and before KK was in Campbelltown, our neighbours used to drive out to Penrith just to get some KK donuts and drive back. Basically they spent an hour and a half of total driving just for donuts.

OMG, really? That’s insane, or one very serious case of the munchies!
