I’ve heard murmurs and what non but I can’t find a substantial list of the state cup players that are definitely leaving us.
-
Im pretty sure that Tame Tupou has been released
-
Pritchard is going to easts, Gower to St George.
i’m sure people like smeg, gr8_1 and that can help out more. -
Problem with State Cup is that the contracts of many are not locked down until the last minute.
Ryan Carr has gone to Redcliffe whilst Lee Bennett and Gavin Cowan have retired.
Lazarus will not be with the club next year, Nicholls is an unknown at this stage. Farlow has multiple opportunities elsewhere. Mid December things should be finalised I would hope
-
So definite:
David Gower - St George
Ryan Carr - Redcliffe
Rhys Pritchard - Sydney Roosters
Tame Tupou - released
Lee Bennett - retired
Gavin Cowan - retired
Blake Lazarus - unclearUndecided:
Darren Nicholls
Jarrod FarlowThat’s a fair chunk of our lower grade talent right there. I actually heard Nicholls was off to the Titans?
-
Yeah a titans mate mentioned that too
It would make sense as their style of play is more suited his (at least from what i’ve seen of it). He reminds me a lot of Bird, thus titans would be a logical option
-
where do these guys play
David Gower - St George FORWARD
Ryan Carr - Redcliffe
Rhys Pritchard - Sydney Roosters
Darren Nicholls
Jarrod Farlow
I know Pritchard seemed to be popular here on the forum, Are any real losses?? -
Farlow is a lock forward who can fill in at hooker.
Carr is a hooker
Pritchard can play centre, wing or fullback
Nicholls is a half or 5/8
I think there are some losses there but only time will reveal that one
-
So nobody has jumped on Lazarus yet? That’s a terrible shame.
-
I wouldnt mind retaining Nichols, but can understand if the others move on.
Darren could be a very good Utility Style player who could fill in at Hooker, Lock, Half and 5/8. While we seem to have good talent in those positions, alot can happen over a 32 week season…
-

I like Blake, but if he wants to get a gig at NRL Level, he might need a prescription?!
-
As I understand it the Roosters have an offer on the table but Blake is at a crossroads and is yet to make up his mind. It is always hard getting accurate information on State Cup though.
I really hope we retain Nicholls but from what I understand the Titans are after someone that will allow Bird to return to the backrow fulltime and form a playmaking combo with Prince. If we lose Nicholls our half options are relatively thin on the ground if the worst happens. I think Waters would be the only other guy apart from Lui who would actually play in the halves in State Cup (assuming Moltzen & Marshall fill the NRL positions).
Anyway as always alot is up in the air so wait and see I guess
-
I’d like to keep Nichols, but in reality, he doesnt look like getting a go with us, so for his sake, i hope he goes to the Titans and has a successful NRL career.
I have a soft spot for those guys who seem to go through without much fanfare but get the job done week in week out and i think Darren is one of those guys. They seem to settle into any role with ease and generally have little trouble making the step up, while some of the more naturally talented players can sometimes take a while to find there feet in the top grade. Darren doesnt appear to be any longterm plans and is behind Moltzen and Lui, so he should do whats best for himself.

alad informed me that Nicholls has moved to France as of last Friday.

Well, that’s disappointing, but I hope young Darren has a great career wherever he goes!
Who will be the halves for BRET next season, no Nicholls, no Lazarus?
