THE feud between Test coach Tim Sheens and controversial Manly star Anthony Watmough escalated days before last week’s Four Nations final. The pair clashed last year and struck an uneasy truce when Watmough won selection for the tournament. But when Watmough was left out of the team for the final, he exchanged angry words with Sheens, holding nothing back.
Greg Inglis was another player said to be reluctant to play under Sheens. One insider said that Inglis could have played despite his shoulder injury and he added that some team members found being in camp under Sheens’ disciplined watch a real grind.
The rocky environment in the lead-up to the Four Nations final clearly did nothing for the Kangaroos, who lost their third final against New Zealand in the past four tournaments. The past two coaches to lose a final, Ricky Stuart in the 2008 World Cup and Wayne Bennett in the 2005 Tri-Nations, failed to hold on to their Kangaroo jobs.

Compare the way Watmough went on (if reported correctly) compared to Petro, shows the difference in the man, one with the best interests of the team and country at heart whilst the other operates in self interest. Well done Petro, a class act.

choc’s inability to respond to sheens’s discipline is no surprise with his history. What’s the issue with Inglis?

Stuart wasn’t sacked because of his on field performance. He was let go after abusing the ref in the hotel lobby the morning after the match.

Typical meat heads!..Choc Whatnow…is a boof head who cant string two words together, which is why he clashed with Sheens as he can’t comprehend his instructions, and G.I…well he thinks he so far above the game that all he needs to do is show up to play…he too is a massive boof head who I can’t wait to see how he reacts to the pressure cooker of Souths when they struggle and will look to him to win games for them, but he will fail…'cause it’s all too hard!..bring on 2011!..Ask the true superstars of the game, what they think of Sheens, those stars who are prepared to put the hard work in to reap rewards…ask Benji and Farah and Ellis…true sportsmen and professionals…not whinging overrated fools like Choc and GI…who has a nick name called “choc” anyway?..that alone says alot about the fool!

A few highlights from the Watmough CV:-
‘He didn’t impress anybody with his attitude (at the 2005 Origin camp), he knows that," Peter Peters said. “He knows he acted like a mug and there’s no room for mugs at that level. But how long has he got to suffer?” "I think he’s matured as a kid, he’s realised he’s got to do the right things off the field as well. I think that’s paying off.’
‘Off the field, Watmough has had to defend himself against a reputation as a thug. In June, he was placed on an apprehended violence order, stemming from accusations from former girlfriend Gillian Rixon that he bashed and verbally abused her in 2004 and 2005. He was fined $3000 for assault in 2005 after an altercation with Rixon’s cousin at a family gathering’MANLY rugby league player Anthony Watmough has been ordered to stay away from his former partner for 12 months following accusations of a string of violent attacks.
The 23-year-old Sea Eagles second rower was today slapped with an apprehended violence order (AVO) in Sydney’s Manly Local Court, where his former partner of seven years Gillian Rixon, 24, claimed he abused her on several occasions in 2004 and 2005.‘On one occasion, Watmough is alleged to have pushed Rixon into a table at the Manly Wharf Bar on New Year’s Eve 2004/2005, and of throwing coins and a chair at her later in the evening at her unit.
Watmough’s lawyer Garry Gillet dismissed Ms Rixon’s statements as “fabrications and lies” but Magistrate Jane Culver said her evidence was “clearly reliable”.
“It was clear to me when cross-examined about the particular details Ms Rixon had a very clear recall of what occurred,” Magistrate Culver told the court.
"The evidence she gave was spontaneous and was based upon a great deal of recall.
“I find that Ms Rixon was genuine, credible and that her evidence did accord with common sense.”
Watmough is also accused of assaulting Rixon outside the Manly home of his manager, George Mimis, on January 21, 2005 at 5am, where he and fellow Sea Eagles player Travis Burns were entertaining two women.
Watmough denied any violent behaviour, but Magistrate Culver said: “If they were as the defendant suggests just standing in front of the gate, why would police officers come up to the door?”.
The court also heard today that when police attended the scene outside Mr Mimis’ house, Watmough threatened to take away financial support from Ms Rixon if she spoke up.
It is alleged that Watmough said: “I’ve got the money, I’ve got the power, I’ll take everything from you”.
Rixon earlier gave evidence that an intoxicated Watmough tried to jam her in between sliding doors after the two attended a 21st birthday party in August 2004’‘At their 2009 season launch, Watmough was involved in an altercation with sponsor Paul Durazza after making unbecoming and overtly sexual and chauvinistic remarks about and to the sponsor’s daughter who was present. He was fined $10000 and given an official reprimand for his drunken misbehavior, but was controversially never stood down nor did he apologize to the woman in question over the incident’
See some sort of picture here? The question is not the nature of Sheen’s relationship with the grub, but why the low brow is even in the squad
