Huddersfield Giants centre Jamahl Lolesi’s career could be over after undergoing major back surgery.
The former New Zealand international, 29, who joined the Giants in 2007, had the operation in the off-season and will not get a squad number.
Managing director Richard Thewlis told the club website: "Jammer can’t play at the moment or train fully.
“Time is his only healer and even that has no set date as to when he will be ready to go again if indeed at all.”
He joined the Giants from NRL side Wests Tigers and has a year left on his current contract.
Thewlis said: "Until the physio gives him the all-clear he is helping out in the office and on the training park and video suite with the younger outside backs.
"With an injury such as his, the overriding priority is long-term health and mobility and Jammer knows that we will support him with every possible assistance.
"There is a danger that these things can get players really depressed but Jammer has accepted it and is occupying himself at the club in many different ways which is great to see.
“Everyone here holds him in high regard and we will see what the future brings for him with fingers crossed in particular for his long-term recovery.”
Lolesi scored 27 tries in 81 Super League appearances for the Giants, including four in 15 in 2010. -

have to look at long term picture here.
you only have a limitied time span in playing footy.
do you take chance to play again, which could possibly cause further injury?
or make sure you can enjoy after footy life with your family? -
so has anyone heard more info about this since???
