Over the years the Roosters have justifiably been referred to as the Transit Lounge, where older players go to recieve their pension cheque, but is there any substance to this?.
Does anyone know which NRL club has had the highest turn over of over rated second rate wanna be’s, help!.
In the 11 seasons of our existance we have gone through 139/140 players, is this the norm?, on average which club has the highest rotation per year, we have pretty much stabilised but surely other clubs are up there with non-retention. -
My money would be on the Dogs having the highest player turnover…but then again they’re bred not bought aye.
-
I would imagine we would have to have one of the better player retentions… well during Sheens time anyway…

I disagree!
Since 2003 and prior to their 2011 recruits - they bought - Poore, Shackleton, Tahu (twice), Manukafoa, Kingston, Robson, Galuavao, Finch, Fa’aoso, Cannings, Lowrie, Ian Hindmarsh, Mateo, Stringer, Robinson, Riddell, Perenara, Morrison, Marsh, Henderson, Pearson, Stapleton, MoiMoi, Muspratt, Muckert, McKinnon, Grothe, Kativerata, Langi, Mal Kaufusi, Treacy, Ronald Prince, John Morris, Leyshon, Leuluai, Hopkins, Dunley, Crouch and Paul Green!
All but 5 of them have moved on or retired since - so their retention is also questionable!
In this time they also lost: Buettner, Donald, Drew, McFadden, Mogg, Russo, Ryan, Chan, Hodgson, Richards, Moodie, Solomona, Tonga, Widders, Armit, Dykes, Vaealiki, Lyon, Witt, Graham, Delaney, Petersen, O’Dwyer, Smith, Taia, Vella, John Williams, Peek, Petersen, Blake Green, Afamasaga, Tsoulos, Webster, Anderson, Irvine, Trent Robinson, Kusto, Meads, Smith, Tony Williams, Paulo, Hauraki, Cordoba, Latimore, Broderick Wright, Tautai & Wagon!
That is 41 ins (counting Timana twice) and 36 of that list out + an additional 48 out (totalling 84 players leaving) in that period - which is considerable player movement over 7 years in my opinion!
For 2011 they have lost Mateo, Inu, Tahu, Grothe, Cayless, Keating & Jonathon Wright (7)!
They have also bought Webb, McGuire, Hicks, Atkins, Chris Walker & Maitua (6) - so they are far from inactive on the market - regardless of the questionable quality of their recruiting!!!
It seems that most journey-men in the NRL eventually get a year or two at Parra (if they didn’t start there)!
-
In the same period as quoted for Parra above - the Tigers have purchased 42 external players (including bringing back Liam, Skando & Fitzy + Moodie twice)!
Out of those 42 - 12 remain (so 30 have moved on) + a further 56 players have also left (inluding Liam, Skando, Moodie & Fitzy once only)! So a total of 86 means we are equitable with Parra - but our current retention (12 versus 5) is far superior!
The names of those who left include some internal kids who were not quite up to a consistent top grade standard such as: Eshman, Duffy, Isakka, Viane, Manu, Bradley-Qalilawa, Cupples, Runciman, Richter, Paterson, Trimarchi, O’Halloran, Chase, Crockett, Flanagan, Clint Hill & Ben Jefferies! (I am not bagging all of these blokes - the fact is that most could play - but not at the level of excellence that we now expect as a club!)
We did recruit some rejects in that time - like Graham, Jobson, Miles, Rieck, Buettner, Sattler, Harris, Milton, Clayton, Kerr, Metuisela, Beckett & Moodie! Most of these blokes are in the “transit lounge/retirement home” category - but were purchased when we had little money to offer and were struggling to attract up and coming talent!! Those days are now long gone!!!
-
The most interesting aspect is that twice as many players leave a club as those who are recruited (even by clubs that are highly active on the market over a few years)!!
That suggests the older players are being replaced with locally-bred/or developed juniors - which is not a bad thing until Politis starts buying houses for the families of 16 y.o. kids from the south-west!

Saw Webb last week… He will have a long Pre-Season if he is to get back on the paddock at the Eels??!!!

@Tiger Watto:

I heard from a member of Parra’s coaching staff that Webb was training the house down. And it was the first time he’d ever done any serious fitness work like he is at the Eels due to the holiday atmosphere/lifestyle existing at the cowboys. But i spose big fat guts dont tell lies do they?

lol… I’ve known him for a long time and he would probably be at the weight he was when Wayne showd him the door at Brisbane… Maybe he has had too many Fruit Mince Tarts in the last few weeks…
-
Webb will never be slim at playing weight. His aerobic fitness can be very good even with a paunch. Time will tell of course. I think the problem isn’t so much fitness as it is he isn’t very good. Coaches worked out how to handle him years ago and he hasn’t varied his game at all since. New club & new start though

You left Issac De Gois off ya list…shame on you and Taps and Lewis Brown and Ben Roberts and Collis and Halatau and the best of all super Utility JOHN MORRIS oh yeah Corey Payne too…i miss him cause he decked T’eo another who left for greener pastures…
-
I only named the more crappy players to have left Geo (except I missed Laurie)!
DeGois, Harrison, Collis, Halatau, T’eo, Tagive, Morris, Galea, Richards, Whatuira, Payne, Elford etc were all genuine first graders - especially compared to the blokes I mentioned!
Brown & Roberts were not included in the stats because they were yet to play first grade when they moved on! Same as David Williams & Hodkinson for Parra!
