A lot of chat has been going on about the emerging NSW squad just selected. Makes me wonder how people feel about rep sides.

We all love to see our favourite players playing in Rep Games. From a Wests Tigers perspective, we may lose the opportunity to field our best team some weeks, but the benefit the player recieve from being around other elite players is a great learning curve, and can easily transpire into thier on-field performances back at club level.
Over the year, we have all heard about the “post origin” woes of the Broncos, but I think when you play in a team where you are surrounded by your fellow rep players, you sometimes see some of the ‘culture’ from within the rep camp, creep into the week to week culture within your club team. Obviously, these cultures are different and I believe Brisbane have gone wrong over the years by accepting this external culture into thier club.
At the end of the day, the players look to play at the highest level of the game. While the Wests Tigers may be disadvantage, we shouldnt expect them to always put club before everything in there lives. I already think they make enough sacrifices for the Tigers by maintaining professionalism on and off the field. Something our club is very good at!
The people responsible for allowing the rep season and club season overlap are the Adminsitrators of the game, and is a seperate issue which needs fixing…

we’ve always had players “overlooked” at rep times, but i think this will be no more as of this year. However I think we have the depth to cover -
With the likes of Lawrence, Farah, Galloway, Gibbs, Heinington, Marshall, Tuqiri, Ellis all up for possible rep selection, It will be an interesting time to draw upon the likes of Woods, Akerpira, Poulitini, Brown, Daniella, Mullaney, and Hyland.

To hate it is to be selfish. Players strive for these achievements. We should congratulate them and wish them the best. They do become better players.

This.
I too try and look at it from a players perspective……every player playing the game bar one or two retards like Grothe & Tahu strives to make reps, its reward for their *hard work, for the most part*Unfortunately names and favourites also play a large part too.

Always good to see Tigers players in rep sides. While the team will always strive to win a premiership, invariably strong teams have rep quality players which is certainly what we are seeing with the Tigers at the moment, and should continue to see this year.
-
Of course I enjoy it, how many players have we lost to injury in rep games lately? I can’t think of any. The whole “we pay the wages” is a shallow excuse.
-
Having rep players means not just those players but the whole squad become exposed to new and improved professionalism not to mention greater tv exposure, crowd attendances and corporate dollars.
The rep players themselves improve in skill, and preparation which will translate to premiership glory.
It is extremely selfish thinking from the 5 people so far who claim that playing for the tiges should be their only concern.

I held my breath as I voted - Positive.
To be seen as a club where rep footy is played increases the attraction IMO.
1 few players is OK - No more than 4 for me.
Ps in 2010 - The origin time wins allowed the Tigers to bank some points that helped is finish so high @ year end.
Nice problem to have…

It gives the players experience to play with other seasoned talents of the game and gives them extra coin that the top tier players rightfully deserve. It is an honour to most players (excepting Jamie Lyon of course,) to wear the colours of your state and/or country. The players that are at that level bust their chops and play consistently enough and should be rewarded with a state/national jersey.
It also showcases the talent on offer at the club, and in turn could well attract other talent to the club.
-
I think its definitely a good thing. Not only will they benefit from being around these teams, and the confidence it will give the players picked, the fact they have been picked will be because they are playing well for the Tigers, so we would be benefiting anyway.
It also gives a chance to blood some younger players in this time, and we definitely have the depth to cover these players now, so it would be a massive positive.
-
It tests depth but is always of benefit to the club in the long term!
If top-class players believe that a team is being snubbed for rep selection (as we have been in the past) - it is hard to attract those players to the club or retain the best of your home-made products! If the team is perceived to be rep light-weights - you also end up paying over the odds for the players that you do manage to attract!
I also have many fond memories from the 80s when Balmain was decimated by Origin selections and the likes of Nobby Clarke, Hardwick, McFarlane, Parish, Marketo, Humphreys, Moss etc had to step up to replace Junior, Benny , Sirro, Jimmy, Blocker & McGuire - coming up with some unlikely but highly memorable victories!
(28-0 against Canterbury in RD 14 of 1986 where Humphreys (in for Jack) & Gary Schofield both scored a double was one of the best)! The Bulldogs team that day included Potter, O’Brien, Peter & Steve Mortimer, Hagan, Langmack, Dunn, Kelly, Mark Bugden, John Elias, Sigsworth & Robinson!
I find it strange that not one of the 5 voters who are against rep selection have had the courage of their convictions to post their reasoning!

No brainer…Country…State… Club…as Red says they come back better…
You watch Chris Lawrence go this year…exciting

definately love it. in saying that though i still believe state of origin matches should be played on sat nights and no nrl games that weekend. also test matches shouldnt be played until after the nrl season.

I like Wednesdays
I hate the idea of less footy in the weekend. Its my little escape.
Byes, below strength teams etc - It all adds to the unpredictability of the product
