Sea Eagles and Tigers in Twenty20 match fundraiser for floods

EVER wondered if Jamie Lyon could handle Benji Marshall’s bag of tricks on the cricket pitch?

Well, the Manly Daily can reveal leading Sea Eagles NRL players will feature in a Twenty20 fundraising match against the Wests Tigers at Manly Oval on January 28.

Led by NSW centre Jamie Lyon, popular winger David Williams and former Australian prop Brent Kite, the Sea Eagles will take on the Tigers.

The Sea Eagles will hold an inter-club trial in the run-in to the game over the next week to sort out the complete make-up of their final XI.

Who should make up the Sea Eagles XI? Have your say below.

“Anything we can do for the people in Queensland, we’ll do,” Lyon said. “It’s up to everyone else to lend their support and hopefully we’ll have some fun along the way.”

The charity game will have the full support of Manly Council, with the match a feature in a fundraising week for flood victims.

“I’ve been waiting 50 years for the Sea Eagles to play on Manly Oval, unfortunately it’s not football, it’s cricket,” Manly Mayor Jean Hay said.

“This game will be a nice finale for all the other things that are happening in Manly.”

Entry into the game will be by a gold coin donation with all proceeds donated to the Queensland Flood Appeal.

There’s a few Tigers players who will fancy their chances against Manly out on the pitch. More importantly though, it’s for a very good cause so if you can get the Friday off work, get out there and cheer them on.

Can’t wait until Matai drops a catch in slips, then hits the ground clutching his shoulder waiting for a penalty.

I know the tigers have a few fair cricketers, Todd Payten was a junior rep wicket keeper(so I have been told) and farah played Green shield for Petersham, a pity we still dont have big Pat on our books to send a few bouncers directed at Mati’s head

The players have gone to Queensland and helped with the clean up and Wests Tigers have made a financial contribution along with other NRL clubs. Why does this match need to be played?

This is how injuries occur, particular random non league type injuries. Some examples include Callum Ferguson (SA cricketer) was out for 4 weeks after injuring himself in a social match on Christmas Eve and Robbie Kearns was out for an extended period after falling off a horse.

                          lol

The squad plays other sports at training all the time. Benji plays touch in the offseason. Moltz chases chicks. Liam plays with Bryce. Robbie cooks over a hot plate. KG smashes Rangers fans. Cuzzo waxes his back. etc

Whats the difference/big deal? Other than raising more money for a great cause. :wahoo:

Turn it up. You would have all the players stay in bed for the 4 months between seasons. They can get hurt walking to the shop.

                            Wise up.

                                  Johns bros pad up

                                  21 Jan 11 @ 03:57pm by JASON AVEDISSIAN

THE Johns brothers are set to feature against each other in next Friday’s charity Twenty20 match at Manly Oval.

Andrew Johns will join Bulldogs great Hazem El Masri and Australian all-rounder Stephen O’Keefe as guest players for the Sea Eagles, Matthew Johns and NSW wicket-keeper/batsman Daniel Smith tipped to play for the Wests Tigers.

The Tigers will be led by hooker Robbie Farah who will settle on his team over the weekend.

Champion Sea Eagle Jamie Lyon will lead his squad, to be settled on early next week.

Supporters will also get the chance to kick the footy around with the players, while any supporter who catches a six will pocket $100.

It promises to be a massive day with the action to start from 4pm. And just a tip, no alcohol will be sold at the premises.

                                  Zorba is delighted

BUSY Sea Eagles media manager Peter Peters has been blown away this week by the support for next Friday’s charity Twenty20 match at Manly Oval.

With very little time to organise the Sea Eagles-Tigers Twenty20 game, Zorba has gained all the support he needs from both Manly mayor Jean Hay and Manly-Warringah Cricket Club president, Andrew Fraser.

“Working with Manly Council and Manly cricket this week has been an absolute pleasure,” he said.

“There should be lots more interaction between sports and councils.”

Manly Oval “King” Sean Rout will supervise the match. All proceeds will go to the Queensland flood appeal.
