Knee reconstructions

Just wondering if anyone has had an issue after a knee reconstruction ??
Getting a real bad pain in the area where the screw is attached to the bone
Its about 10 months after surgery and am wondering if maybe the screw is or has started working itself lose
Has anyone heard of this previously ??
Can’t find anything on the net
Wondering if anyone else has had something similiar as I know a few guys on here have had knee recos ??
Bloody nightmare this surgery has been
Seeing specialist next week

I had a acl reco 4 weeks ago. Am getting the same pain plus a few other issues. No feeling in my shin and still can’t straighten or bend my leg fully. You experiencing any of these problems mate?

Yeah the lack of feeling in the shin is due to the fact they cut through some nerve tissue thats pretty normal I’m told
Still can’t get past about 140 degrees (under surgery )but can virtually fully straighten I’m not the normal knee reco patient though
Had blood clots and lymphaedema as well which meant I was off work for 6 months instead of 10-12 weeks
Just keep the phsyio up I walk about 8 ks a day on the treadmill and slow jog with kids at footy training

Wow that’s no good mate. What procedure did you have was it a hamstring graft? I had the Lars procedure and from what I hear it’s a lot faster recovery.

Hamstring graft and also had both meniscuses removed as well Because I am older they recommended the graft as a fair bit of athritis in the knee
As my main goal is try and get through working career before getting knee replacement when I retire

Fair enough. Keep us updated on what your surgeon says about your pain as I say I’m suffering from the same pain. Good luck mate.

You can look forward to a lifetime of minor pain and problems. Its a dog of an operaration.

Happy that doesnt sound right mate, u need to get that checked. I had my 2nd reconstruction 14 years ago now and it was ok besides the odd aches and pains. About 2 years ago i got this pain where my right lateral miniscus used to be (its bone on bone there now), i couldnt bend my knee and it was quite painful without being agonising. Well being so long after my operations, i couldnt remember which miniscus’ i had removed and i spent a fair bit at physio with the physio diagnosing a tear in that miniscus……yep, the miniscus that wasnt even there lol…i eventually had an MRI and descoverd it was arthritis that was giving me grief. It shattered me, now its an everyday maintenance thing for me. The only running i do is some light stuff in the park with my young fella’s, but sometimes i have to dissapoint them and rest it.

I hate it. But theres worse things in life.

Jais…your only early into ur recovery arnt u? Be patient mate, it can be a bad first 3 months for a traditional reconstruction, but with the LARS i wouldnt really know too much. Dont push it, listen to your body

Yeah mate only 4 weeks in and back at work tomorrow. Thanks for the advice bud.

My father had a knee recon in the sixties and still cant bend his knee, although he tells me very little pain in it now,Though some of his mates from back then who had the op and can bend their knee are still in pain, I know this is along time ago but just thought I would let you know out of interest.

Guys any advice on scar tissue? How to reduce or get rid of it? It’s really restricting my movement I think. I have been told to rub moisturizer in to it and massage it but doesn’t seem to be working. Any ideas?

Have a mate with the same problem Happy. His knee is buggered and has a lump on it which feels like a screw head.

Havent had much of a prob with mine. Just aches when the rains are coming lol.
