RR: Hull Kingston Rovers have confirmed that Aus. coach James Webster, will be leaving the club, to take up a role with the Wests Tigers.

Can anybody Tell me Why? He is a former player? I don’t recall who he is?

Yeah played for us before going to Parra then to the ESL. I think he only recently took up an Ass. Coaching role over there, but from what you’ve said here, must be coming here.

“I’m excited about the future, but I’m sad to be leaving Rovers,” he said. "I left on good terms and while they wanted me to stay, this is too good an opportunity to pass up. I’ve had an amazing time at Rovers but it’s time for me to move on.
“I’m going to be helping out with Wests Tigers academy system and their elite kids. They are two different games in Australia and England but I’m looking forward to getting started. It’s something I’ve done well at Hull KR and it’s a step towards becoming a head coach one day.”

I believe Andrew is coaching the Balmain SG Ball squad.

                        From Hull KR website;

Andrew Webster has left the Robins’ coaching staff to head home to Australia, whilst Chris Chester will continue in his role as Assistant Coach having agreed a year’s extension to his contract.

Webster leaves the club after six years of loyal service to take up a job in the NRL with the Wests Tigers and since arriving at Craven Park ahead of the 2006 season had become an integral part of the backroom staff.

His debut campaign with the Robins ended in fairytale circumstances as the club were promoted into Super League following the National League Grand Final victory over Widnes.

That fairytale has been followed up with plenty of highlights over the past five seasons and Webster admitted that it was a tough call to head back Down Under.

Rovers’ CEO, Mike Smith, is disappointed to see Webster depart and said:

"Andrew has been a very loyal servant to Hull KR over the last six years and we’re very sad to see him go. He was there when we got into Super League and has remained with us during the last five years which have seen the club make massive strides. Andrew has played a big part in that and will always be a part of the club’s history.

“The opportunity for him to go and coach at Wests Tigers is a brilliant one for him and he leaves Craven Park with our gratitude for what he’s done and our very best wishes for the future.”

One person who won’t be leaving is Assistant Coach, Chris Chester, who has extended his deal for a further year.

Having represented the Robins as a player during 2007 and 2008 before injury forced his early retirement from the game, Chester joined Castleford’s coaching staff before returning to Craven Park in the Assistant Coach’s role ahead of the 2009 season.

He’ll work alongside new Head Coach, Craig Sandercock, as the club head into 2012.

From memory he was only very young when he played first grade for the Tigers in 98 or 99? I remember he scored a very good individual try at Leichhardt one Saturday night, I think against the Roosters?

Awesome player megsy. Played against him and he was very good. I remember growing up and all u heard about was this “Willie Peters” guy being the next big thing, but Megsy carved him everytime they played. When he got a shot for Balmain they put him at 5/8 outside Craig Field and he didnt look out of place, its just that 2 small halves were gonna struggle long term. Im sure if we punted Field and kept Webster in the 7 he would have been a decent halfback for us for many years.

My above post refers to James, not Andrew.

Andrew was younger and i didnt realise he went on to any sort of career. He was a very good Trent Barrett like 5/8 who got injured i think, and he went to Parra with James. Parra moved him to the pack i think which was a bad move for him. The Tigers could have had the Webster brothers lining up against the Johns brothers if we secured and looked after the 2.
