2011 was a season where we over achieved. I was more proud of the 2011 wests tigers then the 2005 wests tigers. We spent almost the whole year without our top squad. Long term injuries to lote Lawrence payten Dwyer. Gibbs and Lui also spent a bit of time on the sidelines as well.
If a team had a right to give up in 2011 it was wests tigers. With the injuries and the off field dramas I didn’t expect us to top 8. But we top 4’d went close to being in the GF qualifier which intruly believe we would of won. Anyway just wanted to say I’m proud to be a wests tigers fan and if we stay injury free in 2012 the comp is ours for the taking

Great post!
I personally believe that even with all our injuries and dramas, we still should have made the top 8 when you look at the field behind us. I would have been bitterly disappointed had we missed out on the 8. I do, however, agree with you, when you consider all the injuries and dramas, we did over achieve in 2011.

Overachieved during regular season….but underachieved through finals. We were entitled to put Warriors away.
Lote and Lawrence being underdone cost us. Plus a lack of maturity and respect for an opponent.
2012 is time for this team to deliver, no excuses. Time for Robbie and Benji to deliver.

Gotta agree with Spearby…
Season 2011 was a solid year but was not exceptional. Everyone in the league world had us pencilled in for a top 4 minimum result and we did acheive that…mostly due to an amazingly heroic final 2 1/2 months. Injuries were very cruel but we also brought a lot of pressure upon ourselves with mainly self inflicted off field dramas mid year. This created a very poor work ethic that nearly cost us a finals berth. We also had a fairly unimpeded run through SOO.
We had an exceptional finish to the year that left the squad battered, bruised and tired which was the main culprit to our early exit I believe. However if we had of taken our chances early in the season when we dropped games we should have won, that streak would not have been necessary. You can not do anything about the loss of key personel and we werent the only team in that boat.
For these reasons I dont think we overachieved at all. We more fought our way, very impressively, from a position that we should not have been in mid season and that was an amazing ride. We are a top 4 squad though and I dont think finishing where we did was an overachievement. Those days are behind us.
2012 is the year that we will live up to our potential.

I agree witht the original post, we finished 4th, in itself a great result, given the injuries we had, an exceptional year.
Had lawrence or lote taken the last kick and we won that game, regardless of the result in melbourne I think it would be unanimous that we had a very good season…… does one drop bomb change the whole season that much?? -
I feel that we overachieved in the regular season because at no point during that time did I feel like we were playing like premiership favourites, or even top 4 favourites. It felt like our season never got out of second gear, even when we were on that massive winning streak at the end. This was obviously at least partly due to injuries limiting our attack. We won a couple close games that we weren’t expected to win, and struggled to put away the teams we were expected to beat.
And then somehow we finished 4th. But that was also largely due to other teams falling over at the end (eg the dragons). The gap between the top 3 and 4th was massive.
While we were sitting in second gear, I was happy enough, because that is all we needed to do to get to the finals. But from there, we weren’t able to step up a gear or two when needed to go all the way. That is where we underachieved…
