Like his surname suggests, new Wests Tigers half–back Tom Humble is very much just that when it comes to talking about opportunities.
The talented 22-year-old will provide plenty of depth for Head Coach Tim Sheens next year as he can play full-back, five-eighth, half-back and hooker.
Humble made his NRL debut at five-eighth for Parramatta in 2010, going on to play 6 games before missing most of this year through suspension and injury.
Having signed a one-year deal, Humble says he will be happy to play anywhere in the side but has already indicated it is the halves where he is most comfortable. He is in a battle with Tim Moltzen and Jacob Miller for the number 7 jersey alongside five-eighth Benji Marshall.
“My opportunities were limited this year so hopefully I can turn things around at Wests Tigers,” Humble said
I want to play first grade but at the moment it is tough to say I want to play this position especially when the season is still four months away.“The most a player can look at now is the next training session and the training session after that and making sure you work hard in each of them
“I’ve played most of my footy in the halves and I’ve played a bit of full-back in the NRL and in the U20s but it is the halves where I feel at home.“I like tackling more than catching bombs. Full-back is still an option as I do enjoy it as you have a bit more freedom and there is a little less pressure on you than in the halves.
“There are probably 3 to 4 players going for 3 positions. Tim Sheens has told us the opportunity is there but he puts the onus on you to work hard and earn a spot.
“I couldn’t wait to get an opportunity at Parramatta to play with Jarryd Hayne and it is the same with Benji.
“If I get the opportunity to play alongside him, then I will learn as much as I can and hopefully Benji can help me a little too
Benji has been put in all different situations in the game from grand finals to international games. That’s something you can’t take for granted.”Tom Humble

Halfbacj aye. i always thought he was just a fullback. will be interesting what the team looks like for round 1. bring it on!!!
-
Yeah I reckon we have a three way battle for the seven jersey - Humble, Miller and Moltzen.
Should be very interesting trials!

Humble is the wildcard of 2012 i reckon
And John Grant.
I don’t understand the hype around Grant to be honest. Everyone is getting carried away just coz he has pace and looks good in a youtube package. You can make a highlight package of any athlete and make him look like a superstar. He’s going to need a lot more then speed to cut it in the NRL. Apparently Sheens has already said he’ll bring him along slowly, so everyone who has him as their fullback for next yr may need to have a re-think

I’m really hoping Grant makes the transition to league. As you said GNR, Sheens wants to bring him on slowly so I can’t see him in the side until mid year but when he does I think he will be there to stay.

Not wanting to be a muck raker but didn’t Humble miss most of 2010 following a positive drug test of the performance enhancing kind after ‘inadvertantly’ taking a supplement containing a drug on the ADSA banned list.
Saw him play for Wentworthville against BRET on Foxsport and he carved the Tigers up but what’s he like in the flesh, was this just a flash in the pan effort to impress the Tiges as he was already linked to ink?. -

I disagree, I reckon it will be Chisholm ahead of Humble, he has more of an x-factor from what I’ve seen. Personally I feel the 7 jersey is a two horse race between Moltzen and Miller.
-
True willow its between moltzen or miller but wont matter it will be all gud come next year fire up tigers!!!

We have so many “jack of all trades master of none” its not funny. Each player given time in the one spot will succeed imo, but who do u choose and stick with?
