Sorry if there is a topic for this, If there is feel free to move it to the correct place  But what is the chances of John Grant getting named rd 1? Had a look at his highlights for next year and he looks the goods! IMO could be the next big thing and my tip for the rookie of the year!
as a Knights supporter (Waits for the hate mail) id hate too see you guys line up against us with 1 Grant 2 Ryan 3 Lawrence 4 Ayshford 5 Lote 6 Marshall 7 Moltzen. Some speed and skill in that side!!! Thoughts??

Id like to see Grant get a go some where in the backline sooner rather than later.

Theres dozens of topics about this. But anyway, despite how he looks in a youtube clip (any athlete can look like a superstar in a highlights package) people have seemed to get a little to carried away, declaring him a superstar in the making, when the sensible thing to do would be to adopt a ‘wait and see’ attitude. As far as him being in the side for round 1, Sheens has said he won’t rush him, so that all but rules him out IMO. And fair enough to, he hasn’t done anything to warrent getting the nod over Ryan or Lote
-
If you like Josh we can swap John Grant for Kurt Gidley or Uate ???

i’d take uate but not gids
has any1 called gids this offseason ??? -
Round 1, unlikely unless both Beau and Lote are injured. I think he’ll get a go at some stage though. Physically he’s a weapon, it’s just a question of how well he adapts to reading the game and knowing where to position himself IMO.

Yeah thats fair enough. I’m just not a fan of Reddy and would have put Grant in the side above him.
As for Grant over Uate or Gids No chance -

According to someone within the club Grant is well and truly in the mix for the fullback role - the feeling I got was that he is pretty much pencilled in for the number 1.

Im not dismissing what your saying but im having a hard time getting my head around it. A guy who hasnt played league and is signed for only one year because Sheens doesnt know how he will go, is pencilled in for fullback, one of the most important positions in the team, before he has even had a trial?

Yeah I know but I guess we have to wait and see, the question is however - is the NRL fullback role really that hard to learn?
I mean if he’s big, fast and talented surely without too much tweaking he should be able to handle it…

Well positional play, defence and support plays are all key. Despite the excitment over Grant, no one can say for sure wether he has these attributes to succeed as a fullback in the NRL. Not straight away anyway

To answer your question is playing fullback that hard ??
You are calling players into position in defence while trying to read which side the attack is going to attack
While doing this you are having to look out for grubbers ,chips , the opposition kicking early in the count calling the wingers back if you think they are going to kick early in the count and then working out which side they will kick to in general play
When they are in attack you are doing this and trying to position yourself for where they will aim their bombs ,grubbers etc
It isn’t easy at all and you need a voice like a foghorn so they can hear you
So what people who want Grant at fullback in Round 1 to learn is all the intricacies of the game and also learn to play Fullback
If he can manage this he is indeed a truly special footballer imo

Last thing Sheens wld do in "not rushing him"wld be to play him at fullback, particularly as he’s played almost all his top grade rugby as winger
Way too much responsibility imo,& thats exactly what Moltzen & Reddy are for… at this stage.
Having said that,Lote & Ryan will have first crack at the wing spots if both are fit(Lote??),but Grant will feature in the trial matches no doubt,& will probably make a pretty good impression as a finisher & put a little pressure on earlier than expected.
If Lote starts 2012 the way he finished 2011…? -
Be lucky to get on the bench in reggies. It will take time and a lot of luck, Moltzen will be the no1 and the no7 is a three horse race between Miller Humble and the guy we got from the storm with Miller the early favorite
