Phil Rothfield from the Telecrap reckons “Tim Sheens has the best pack of forwards in the competition with Storm recruit Adam Blair, Keith Galloway, Robbie Farah, Gareth Ellis and Chris Heighington leading the charge. Throw in Liam Fulton and rookies Aaron Woods and Matt Groat and it’s an unbelievably strong unit.”
Well I happen to agree with him in this regard and I started thinking who has the best pack in the comp ???
There are some damn good ones namely Manly, Dogs, Brisbane and Newcastle.
I reckon all these come in the top 6;
1. WT’s
2. Manly
3. Newcastle
4. Brisbane
5. Dogs
6. Dragons7. Warriors
8. Storm
9. Raiders
10. Roosters
11. Parra
12. Penrith
13. Gold Coast
14. SharksI reckon the Wests Tigers have finally got the size in Blair, Groat and Woods to go with Galloway, add to that the skill of Farah and the high workrate of Ellis and we have the pack that can drive us to the Premiership.
There’s a lot of good competition out there but I reckon , barring injuries that we up there for a big shot at wining the comp.
I reckon there will be some differences of opinion in the pack rating , will be interesting to see what you think.

I think our pack should be ranked no 1. We’ve easily got the best back-row in the comp, with a pretty handy front-row. There should be absolutley no reason why Sheens carries a winger on the bench in 2012 with how good our forward pack is
Found it interesting how you’ve put each teams forward packs in order. Can’t believe you have the Sharks at 14 with guyz like Gibbs, Gallen and Ross. Also as much as i hate Souths, they’re pack would have to be in the top 5
-
I think having Blair in the pack will def add starch. Galoway will improve further IMO. Farah will be fit with a few Rep goals in mind. Both Woods and Groat i think will have more confidence from last season to grabe some more attention. BMM will come out of his shell and suprise us ALL!!! Ellis to continue his magnificent display of how a forward should play! Hino and fulton will be hard to choice from.
A Great Forward Pack, i think fultan at lock with a bigger forward pack will let us open up more opertunities in attack.
Tigers #1 Pack!
P.S… Blair and Farah to have a great combo, i can invision it now… -
I do like the look of our pack but still think we will need to stay injury free
We are in the top 5 packs but it will mean nothing if they don’t aim up every week
Hope we can find a way to cover for Gibbs

Spot on, Happy. Names on paper mean nothing if this doesn’t happen. Just look at Souths pack over the past few years.

Not sure we’re so high up. Our front row depth is weak in that if Galloway gets injured, we’re relying a lot on rookies in the engine room. Our back row is either the best in the comp or second to Manly.

IMO most teams would be in a similar situation.

I don’t think so, there’s a big gap between our #1 and #2 props (Galloway and Woods) and another sizable gap between our #2 and the rest. With a salary cap every team will have a big weakness, for me ours is front row depth. A good run with injuries will cover that.

I think we have a very good pack & it is in the top four packs in my opinion, but i still think we will miss Gibbs as i rated him very highly especially his defence.

Is Shirnack gone? Good backrow option to throw in.
I think there was chat that Begovich has left? I hope not…
I agree with marshall_magic. Our front row depth is the issue, but we have an amazing 2nd row so I think Blair or BMM will be pushed to the front row if we get a few injuries.

Al Schirnack is still there, whether he is in Sheens plans is another question. Begovich is also there but not training fulltime due to his business being a priority.
Roqica has gone to the Bulldogs.

See in the front row only Galloway and Bell are proven performaners across multiple seasons (in fact none of the others have 50 games to their name). Woods and Groat had excellent first years but whether they back it up remains to be seen. Apart from Moors the rest are completel unproven. Compare our front row rotation to teams like Brisbane, St George, New Zealand, North Queensland and even Parramatta and Penrith I think there’s a clear lack of depth.
