ENNIS rates Des equal to Benett
Darren Walton January 06, 2012Six weeks into their union and already Canterbury captain Michael Ennis rates Des Hasler alongside NRL supercoach Wayne Bennett.
Hasler arrived at Belmore in November following an acrimonious departure from Manly, the club he guided to a second NRL premiership just a month earlier.
And Ennis made it clear on Friday that Hasler has quickly made a big impression, with the hooker predicting the next few years will be a special time for the club.“He’s a special man. I’ve been coached by some good coaches and he’s certainly at the top of the list with those guys,” Ennis told AAP.
Quite the accolade given 27-year-old Ennis has played under the likes of Bennett at Brisbane, Craig Bellamy and Ricky Stuart for NSW and Laurie Daley for NSW Country after starting his career at Newcastle under Michael Hagan.
“He’s a very, very impressive person other than a coach,” Ennis said.
"It’s just great to see his work ethic around the club and his passion towards where he wants to take this team.
“I think that’s building a lot of enthusiasm around the club.”
Before leaving Manly, Hasler was considered a Sea Eagle through and through after spending almost all of his playing and coaching career at the club.
But despite still living on Sydney’s northern beaches, Ennis believes Hasler has already embraced life at the Bulldogs.
“It’s a culture that’s really suited him, to be honest,” the hooker said.
"It’s very similar to Manly, I suppose, with all the history that both sides have had.
“They’re both known as hard-working, tough clubs and at times disliked by a lot of fans.”
Ennis said the combination of a new state of the art facility at Belmore and the staff Hasler brought with him was helping Hasler to get the best from players.
"For me personally, in the middle of my career, I think under a coach like Des and his staff he’s got there, it’s going to be a time I’ll look back on and remember how much I enjoyed it.
"You can just feel that you’ll know that you’ve done everything possible.
“He doesn’t leave any stone unturned in terms of your preparation and that’s something the whole group will thrive on.”
Ennis was reluctant, though, to promise Bulldogs fans instant premiership success under Hasler after the side missed the finals for the past two years.
“A lot needs to go into a premiership,” he said.
"I saw what was required in 2006 with Brisbane and you need a lot of things to fall your way as well as a lot of hard work.
"The latter we’re covering but it’s a long season and there’s a lot of good sides in this competition.
“But I’m certainly confident with the group that we’ve got that we can be very competitive.”
"There’s a belief more so than an expectation now, knowing that you’ve got a guy like Des who is so passionate and hard-working at the forefront of us.
“I just think the next few years are going to be a special time for the club.”
Excuse me Des, can you bend over while I kiss you on the arse…!That right, it’s only taken Ennis 6 weeks and already he’s so far up Hasslers back side, we can only see his feet flapping.
The only part he got right was ’ both clubs, Manly and the Bulldogs are disliked by a lot of fans’…… Too right…! -
Gee that Mike Ennis is a nice guy, he must hardly know his new coach and he is talking him up, isn’t it nice to see some compassion in Rugby League
-
What a dickhead, seriously can you put a guy in twice in your most hated players team ?
Just waiting to see what his next stupid on field indiscretion/altercation will be about, because we all know its coming. -
Oh give it a rest.
He’s a cat on the field - we get that.
Off the field, he’s a really good guy. Ennis is/was probably second only to Andrew Ryan over at that mob for all the charity and kids work he does in his own time.
So yeah he sucks up to his new boss… what do you expect the CAPTAIN of the first grade side to do? Tell the new EXPENSIVE coach to take a hike?
Serisouly lads, hate the guy on the field, but off the park, he’s a scholar and a gentleman.

I can see them both on the pottery wheel re-enacting that scene from ghost……I can hear the Righteous Brothers now…

One wonders why any comments from Ennis get media attention anyway. Oh that’s right, he’s a nice guy.
I like him off field. I don’t think he is that bad on field either other than being a pest.
But he is right up there with SBW as one of the most over-rated players to lace on a boot. Average to good club player and that’s about it. His friendships and suck-holing to the media get him rep honors and that sucks.

Hasler has got a lot of raps as a coach from many of the players he has coached
I don’t want to give your blokes any ideas but maybe he might be the right guy to coach at SOO level and get some better results

Yes agree with this, Happy. Perhaps Ennis has some inside info about a possible new SOO coach and that’s why he is ‘brown nosing’. On second thoughts, nah! - that’s just Ennis.
Still looking for that vomit emoticon after reading that article though.

(A)Ennis…the master of the spin…gotta hand it to him he must’ve attended that day in class…

Ennis won’t be in first grade after the bulldogs lose their first six games

Pretty sure I read him saying a similar thing about Jim Dymock just weeks before Hasler was appointed coach.
-
new coach, new times at bulldogs.
be interesting to see how its spans out, when results are not going way of bulldogs
. -
Not coached by Sheens yet, and I really hope it stays that way. Both at club and country level.

Ass Kissing at the highest level, one way to stop Hasler Bringing back Monaghan from the UK!.
