The last week or so I have surfed a few of the other fan forums trying to find fans opinions on some youngsters I like (following youngsters from as early as possible to NRL is my favourite hobby)
Thought id make a few observations on the good and bad of the sites I looked at.Newcastle has an excellent forum, well moderated, once I mentioned I was a tiger fan, just like every thread here it went straight to where will Moltzen play, and who will be the other (half or fullback). But they have an excellent section where each player has their own thread dedicated to techinical analysis of their football. There is a warning that fan comments like “cant wait to see him play” or he my favourite player will be deleted. as well as senseless comments like he is soft or rubbish. It an excellent section I would love if we had something similar.
Brisbane-Rubbish site, there are no moderators or it seems that way, from time to time i think our moderators are a little heavy handed, now I know why! almost every thread is filled with blokes just flaming each other.
Nth Qld- I pretty good site, well organised, but there is not much traffic and there is seems to be alot of illinformed pundits on the site.
There is also loads of good talk and a couple blokes clearly inside the camp, one despite pretending not to be, wouldn’t surprise me if he was on the coaching staff, continually saying stuff like “we think such and such has improved such and such in the offseason” , then claiming just to be a fan, even after be called out about knowing of every announcement before it happened and never being wrong :slight_smile:Canberra- Good site, heaps of good chat, alot of knowledgeable fans, i like it.
Just some insight on other sites.
BTW our site is great compared to others, others a good too, but we should be proud of ours, it has the most posts of the sites I looked at, and one of the most friendly atomspheres (along with Newcastle)
Do others check out other clubs sites?? -
I’ve only ever checked out the public forums (i.e. ones you don’t need to join to view) Apart from what you note above:
Canterbury is terrible
Penrith better but not great
St George seems hosted on LU and no independent forum
Melbourne better than I thought it would beOverall, apart from WTF, Canberra seems the best but I’ve never really looked at Newcastle’s

i post on the raiders forum (know as the greenhouse) because my best mate is a raiders fan and he told me to get into it, and i really enjoy it. They seem to have more threads on general nrl discussions than we do which i think is great. the main moderator on the greenhouse has over 50,000 posts, its insane! when i joined up to it i didnt want my posts to be shutdown with “what would u know, you’re a tigers fan” etc so i just pretend i go for the raiders.

The kennel is always good for a laugh.
Also the old wests tigers forum used to have a section for each player.

Last time I looked at the Manly one it was hopeless. Hardly any posts.

I only visit other forums when I’m after news about potential signings for WT.
The Greenhouse is pretty good. The others I’m not so fussed on.

The greenhouse is the best outside of ours.
During the season, the Raiders army, the greenhouse crew, get on the local radio and promote the games. they organise tour busses to away games and huge booze ups for home ones. Last year they were on the rdio promoting the Tiges game and told everyone to meet at a certain pub. I went along all dressed up to stir them a bit and walked into a gathering of what seemed thousands of fans.
They certainly are a knowledgable bunch as well and you dont get too many of the one eyed fans who claim every other side is scum. They just love their footy and support their side.
The kennel is a joke. Some real clowns there.

Started having a read of the Dragons in the last week as i was helping my young Brother in law.
I tell you they do nothing but whinge.
WTForum is great, How many have smartphone apps and whilst being independent have such a close tie with the club.
