I am currently watching the NFL play off which has gone into OT
There rules for the play offs are interesting and I believe good
They toss for first possession and then if you kick a field goal on your first possession the other team still gets the ball back and gets a chance to either field goal or get a touch down
If the team that initially gets the ball gets a touchdown they win
I reckon that is a really good golden point rule we could use in the NRL
What do you guys and girls think ??

How do you incorporate into League Happy? a possession in NFL is different to a possession in League. Do you mean if a team scores from the kick-off? coz the chances of that aren’t as high as in NFL
-
Get rid of Golden Point or change it as they were discussing. Both teams get a point for the draw, and they play GP for the other point.
It only exists to keep the Betting Agencies happy!

Well GNR is it fair that you get to golden point and could get into the situation where you don’t touch the ball and get beaten all because of how the coin bounces
Both teams deserve to get a shot at winning especially if the team that gets the ball 1st kicks a field goal
And Watto I’m with you I’m happy with the one point because of the draw but the NRL isn’t going to change it now imo

I’d prefer to just have ten minutes of extra time. A flukey 40m field goal or a penalty goal is a terrible way to lose a game. At least then both sides get a crack at field goal.
Or ultimately scrap golden point and extra time through the regular season. If the game is tied at the end of 80 minutes then both sides deserve a point and should walk away with one. I have no problems with a draw. Save golden point and extra time for games that need an outcome, like origins, semi finals and test matches.

Why not introduce a system that when a game goes into extra time, you can either;
1. Score a field goal, but the game continues. If the field goal is the only point scored during the full session of extra time then you win. At least if one team gets a one pointer, the other side has a chance to level the game and possibly win.
2. If a try is scored, or penatly that results in a successful kick at goal attempt, you end the match regardless of how much more time is left in extra time.
3. If no points are scored, game is tied and both teams walk away with a point.
It’s probably been tossed up before, but this system would result in less field goal attempts as team may want to “go for the kill” and score the match winning try, but not kill off field goal attempts totally.

Posted using RoarFEEDThat is basically what the NFL game was proposing and thats what I liked about it Tiger 91

Posted using RoarFEEDYep. I like it. Also creates some questions for the attacking team if you get the ball early in GP down their end of the field. Do I take a FG knowing a try to them will beat us or do I go for the try and the win. This should be the NRL rules.

Such a great game this morning.
I really like their system. The NRL’s golden point system sure could use a shake up.
- Make each game worth 3 points. If you win after 80mins, you get all 3. A win in ET is worth 2, a loss in ET you get 1
- I like the idea of field goals/penalty goals still counting but the game continuing, and the only scoring play that would end the game is a try.
-
No golden point for me, you slog your guts out for 80 min then it mainly depends on the whim of the referee. 0ne point each in my opinion.

x2. Hopefully teams will go for the try instead of turning ET into a field goal-a-thon.
10 mins extra, five mins each half, excepting finals games where first point wins. 3 points on offer per game (3 for Non ET win, 2 for ET win, 1 for ET loss or ET draw, 0 for Non-ET loss.)

I used to be against ET too Tigerbenji, but it creates a bargaining chip in terms of TV coverage. It guarantees an extra 10 mins of ratings for the network(s).
I’ll take any chance to wring more game time out of each fixture.

Posted using RoarFEEDThis system should be put forward to the NRL Tiger91.
A much better system than what we have in place.
Nothing worse than busting your guts for 80 min and then losing to a scrapy field goal. We might even see some footy played in extra time instead of a kickfest. -

I’d prefer golden try, the golden field goal demeans the game and diminshes it as the spectacle in those final sessions.
