Wests Tigers launched their 2012 season tonight in fine style with a glamorous function at Le Montage, Lilyfield.
More than 500 people attended the inaugural Wests Tigers ‘Roar for Kids’ Charity Season Launch. It was the first time in the Club’s history the season launch was open to the public to help raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA).
Whilst there were interviews with Wests Tigers players on stage and an earlier presentation of medallions for 2012, the night was about acknowledging the great work that CCIA and the Benji Marshall Foundation do to raise awareness and much needed funds into childhood cancer research.
One of the many highlights was a $20,000 donation to the Benji Marshall Foundation from the Nuance Group, Australia.
“The donation means a lot to myself but more importantly to the kids who are going to receive those funds for research into cancer,’’ Marshall said proudly on stage.
“I love being a part of the CCIA. The reason I got behind this whole thing was I always wanted to start a foundation. I thought that time might come when I retire or my profile got bigger.
“My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the end of the 2008 and into 2009. It is tough to go through any forms of cancer in families. My grandmother passed away with breast cancer, two of my aunties passed away from bowel cancer and another from breast cancer.
“It was pretty right throughout my family and it affected us pretty hard.
“My father told me before he died that he thought I could help out a lot more and in particular kids with cancer. I started the Benji Marshall Foundation because of his inspiration. Sadly, three children a week die from childhood cancer.”
Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys said CCIA was one of the Club’s three premium charity partners.
“On the field we all know the extraordinary skills that Benji Marshall plays bit tonight was a good opportunity for us all to recognise the wonderful work he does off the field and the very generous financial support the Benji Marshall Foundation provides to many needy charities and CCIA in particular,’’ Humphreys said.
“We are very proud of Benji.”
I went last night ….it was a great night , much better feel on the room , with the extra space …not sure the total was but there was a $20,000 & $15,000 donation .
I donated via the Silent auction successful bid.
All the players looked like they had a good time .

It was a great night. I was selling raffle tickets for the charity on the night and it was great to see how generous people are. I hope the charity raised heaps of money. The first tally for the night totalled $92,000 but I believe that doesn’t include everything.
It was great to catch up with Mrs T again. Sorry I didn’t know Aladinsane was there as I would have introduced myself.
